Migrate from Blogger to WordPress.com
-
Hi. I’d like to transfer a site from Blogger to WordPress.com (free accounts). I have already created the new site (content and appearance), so I only need to transfer the posts (about 7) and the rankings (SEO staff, I am not very informed) and set the redirect. The questions are:
1. If I import the xml file that I will export from Blogger, will it bring the old pages as well? As I said, I have created new pages, so I don’t want them. Though is there a way to redirect the old pages to the new ones?
2. Will the import spoil my appearance or index in any way? I ask because everything I read mentions importing as the first step and customization as the third.
3. Will the previous posts be imported on my new posting page? With the old date, or the importing date? Should I just republish the content of the old posts or I will loose the SEO numbers?
4. About the redirecting process, I am lost in translation. First step is to sign in to Blogger, find ‘Advanced DNS Settings’ console and ‘Set your DNS to ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com, and ns3.wordpress.com.’ or is that only for paid/custom domains? Is there anything else to do? The old site has a number of visits, will that be transfered to the new site after that?
Could you tell me the best way and which step comes first so as to make it work without losses if possible, please?
Any help is greatly appreciated! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
1. If I import the xml file that I will export from Blogger, will it bring the old pages as well?
That depends on the file. The importer will import everything that’s in the file. There’s no way to select which parts of the file to import. If you don’t want to import your pages, then don’t export them from Blogger. You’ll need to contact Google support to find out if they have an option to let you select which content to export.
Though is there a way to redirect the old pages to the new ones?
There is not. Any internal links between pages on your Blogger site will be rewritten by the importer so they still point to the correct pages on your WordPress.com site, but there is no way to redirect links to new pages on your WordPress.com site that is not part of the import.
2. Will the import spoil my appearance or index in any way?
I’m not sure what you are speaking of. Your theme from Blogger won’t be imported, only the text content of your posts and pages. Formatting from those posts and pages should be preserved, but your site on WordPress.com will be using one of our themes.
What do you mean by “index”?
3. Will the previous posts be imported on my new posting page? With the old date, or the importing date?
Post will appear on your WordPress.com site with the same publication date as they had on Blogger.
Should I just republish the content of the old posts or I will loose the SEO numbers?
Search engines will need to re-index your site at the new address, and you will see a drop in search engine traffic while this process is taking place. There is nothing you can do that will prevent this from happening.
That is for custom domains. If you site is at a free Blogger domain, you’ll need to contact Google support to find out if there’s a way to redirect that to WordPress.com.
The old site has a number of visits, will that be transfered to the new site after that?
There is no way to import your stats from Blogger to WordPress.com.

Good evening kokkieh! Thank you for responding!
“Index”: wrong word. Sorry. What I meant was the content (texts) and customization.
If the imported file contains the pages from the Blogger site as well (not only the posts), will these pages create new pages to my WordPress site or the content of the old pages will update (additional to the existing content or overwrite the existing content)?
Thank you in advance! -
Let me just say that I had already read “Coming from Blogger?” as well as other posts and articles inside and outside WordPress Support and it seems that most of the articles reffer to custom domains. Thanks again for your help!

Any pages already on your WordPress.com site won’t be overwritten. The blogger posts and pages will just be added to any existing content on your site.
Customization won’t be imported. You’ll need to customize the WordPress.com theme you select for your site using the options available instead.
