migrate from joomla to wordpress

Hi, I would like to migrate from joomla1.5 to wordpress4.2.2 . could you please assist me?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. WordPress 4.2.2 refers to the self-hosted WordPress.org platform. This is WordPress.COM, something completely separate and different. http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you’re trying to import content to a self-hosted WordPress.ORG site, please post in their support forum: http://wordpress.org/support/

If you’re trying to import content to the WordPress.COM site at http://jrate.wordpress.com/, be aware that the only way to import content to WordPress.com is via an XML import file. If you can’t download your content from Joomla in that format you’ll first need to export it to another service like Blogger and then export an XML file from there. https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

    Hi Kokkieh,
I’m not sure if my wordpress website is .com or .org. Do you know how I can find out?

  • Are you speaking of this site: http://jrate.wordpress.com/ ?

That site is WordPress.com, so the last paragraph of my answer applies.

If you’re speaking of a different site, give the URL and I can check for you.

Sorry , I’m speaking of other website . the address is :
    http://lawblog-dev.cc.umanitoba.ca

    @kokkieh
I think this site is worpress.com . because there is not any plugin tab on doshboard.

  • http://lawblog-dev.cc.umanitoba.ca/ is definitely NOT a WordPress.com site. The people in the WordPress.org support forum will be able to tell you whether or not it’s a WordPress.org site and what to do regarding plugins or importing from Joomla. You can find the WordPress.org support forum here: http://wordpress.org/support/

I think this site is worpress.com . because there is not any plugin tab on doshboard.

No, that might just mean your site is not WordPress at all, or your webhost is using a dashboard interface that doesn’t allow you to install plugins. As that appears to be part of a university website it might be that the system administrator has disabled plugins for the sake of system security. You might need to contact the IT department at the university about importing from Joomla.

WordPress.com sites always display a WordPress.com link in the footer, if you view it while logged in you’ll always see the WordPress.com toolbar that appears at the top of this forum as well, and WordPress.com sites on a custom domain will always have the domain name servers pointed at WordPress.com.

WordPress.org sites sometimes display the WordPress.org link in the footer, but not always as .org users can remove that link. And obviously the name servers will be pointing to whoever is hosting them, but that’s also true for non-WordPress sites.

    Kokkieh,

Many thanks, you explained solution very clear. :) just because I don’t have plugin tab I tought maybe that is not an org.
So do you know the best way for migration from joomla to wordpress while I don’t have any plugin? or should I contact with the wordpress.org support to make sure if my website is a wordpress.org at first?

  • As the blog is a subdomain on umanitoba.ca I suggest you contact the university’s IT department first. As they’re the ones who built the site I think they’d be best able to help you.

Otherwise post in the WordPress.org forums. The option I mentioned above of importing to another service and then exporting an XML file from there should work with WordPress.org as well, but I have no direct experience working with WordPress.org, so the .org forum is the best place to go for help.

You’ll have to register a WordPress.org username account before you can post in that forum. Your WordPress.com username and password won’t work there.
