Migrate from WordPress.org to WordPress.com
-
I’d like to find out how to transfer our blog on the WordPress.org platform over to WordPress.com. We are using the Yuko Theme, which I believe is also available on WordPress.com. The site is ottawaohara.com. Many thanks.

That theme is not available here. The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress com blogs are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/
WordPress.com and WordPress.org run on different software and themes are not transferable between them. There are many important differences between the two. Please read this entry very carefully so your understand the limitations and restrictions on free hosted WordPress.com blogs http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Perhaps you mean Yoko which is available here and not Yuko.
The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs are found here > Appearance > Themes and there are 200 of them
see also > http://theme.wordpress.com/There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install plugins, upload third-party themes or edit templates or themes. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/There is no upgrade you can purchase from WordPress.com that changes anything stated here http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ and restated again here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/#important-notes-before-upgrading and restated again here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions
To use a third party theme you will have to hire a web host and set up a self hosted WordPress.org install.

Many thanks for this. I did mean the Yoko theme, thanks.
And yes, I’m familiar with all of the differences between the two platforms; unfortunately, the person who first set up the account for our organization did not, and we feel that .org is overkill for us. I can see how to migrate a .com account onto the .org platform, but not the reverse. Is it possible to easily transfer a .org site to .com when there is a shared theme (as I’m hoping there is in this case, with Yoko)?

I guess I’m never going to get a completely straight answer on this question. The real issue for me is that not everyone who chooses the self-hosted option does so with enough knowledge, or has it chosen for them by someone more technical who won’t need to manage the site. We’re feeling stuck now that we’re faced with reproducing our site on WordPress.com with no apparent way to migrate the content from our current .org-based site (apart from rebuilding from scratch). If anyone else has thoughts on this, I’d be grateful.
