Migrate Subscribers to Self-Hosted WordPress
-
I’d like to migrate my subscribers.
This link (https://wordpress.com/support/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/) said I can contact you (the aforementioned link also provided a link to this form I’m using now) to request this transfer.
But I have a few questions before I migrate:
1. What is involved with the migration process?ALSO, following the instructions here (https://jetpack.com/support/subscription-migration-tool/) leads me to the ‘Move Followers From a WordPress.com Site’ screen.
I do NOT see the site I am wanting to migrate subscribers FROM under the dropdown for the ‘Select WordPress.com Site’ field.NOTE:
To clarify: I followed these instructions from a JetPack enabled, self-hosted site. So the site I’m looking for in ‘Select WordPress.com Site’ is the site who currently has the followers/subscribers that I wish to migrate. If useful:
The site I want to migrate my followers FROM is ‘wemaxedout.com’.
This site USED to be on the Business plan. It now has the domain ‘https://wemaxedout.wpcomstaging.com/’ (I do have a purchased domain: wemaxedout.com).
Also, I have about a dozen other WordPress sites. They ALL show up EXCEPT wemaxedout.com. wemaxedout.com is a public (all my other sites are private) and I used to have a Business plan on wemaxedout (and only the free plan for the others). I’m not sure if this has something to do with it, but I’m sharing in case it helps. Why am I unable to find my wemaxedout.com site in the drop down list for ‘Select WordPress.com Site’ of the ‘Move Followers From A WordPress.com Site’ section?
-
Also, the only self-hosted WordPress site I have is the one I’m trying to migrated my followers to.
ALL the dozen (or so) other sites I have are all WordPress.com sites.
Everything should have JetPack enabled. The self-hosted site I am migrating to DOES have JetPack, as I have JUST updated it to see if that will change anything.
The site I am migrating from ALSO has JetPack. -
To be more precise on how many OTHER sites I have: There are 16 sites that show up in the “Select WordPress.com Site” dropdown, NONE of which is the site I am trying to migrate my followers from (wemaxedout.com).
It is also the ONLY site not listed in the dropdown.
Maybe there’s a cap of only showing 16 options in the dropdown? -
NOTE:
Just because I mentioned that “wemaxedout.com” is a valid domain, I wanted to provide an update for that:
I just transferred my wemaxedout.com domain and it now seems like it no longer points to my site. THIS IS FINE AND NOT THE PROBLEM AT HAND. I am only updating since I can’t edit my original message and I want to keep everything I say ACCURATE and HELPFUL.THIS ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED, I am only maintaining integrity by providing you as much useful information as possible. For example, I previously said something (wemaxedout.com being a valid domain) that is no longer true.

Hi there,
I do NOT see the site I am wanting to migrate subscribers FROM under the dropdown for the ‘Select WordPress.com Site’ field.
The site I want to migrate my followers FROM is ‘wemaxedout.com’.
This site USED to be on the Business plan. It now has the domain ‘https://wemaxedout.wpcomstaging.com/You’re not seeing the site in the WordPress.com site list dropdown, because that site was never properly downgraded from the Business Plan back to the Free plan when your Business Plan expired.
When you installed plugins on the site, it caused certain changes in the background, and those changes must be reverted for the site to work properly again. There is a slight risk that content added to the site since you installed plugins can be removed during this process, so please confirm if we can proceed with that.
As for the migration, you have not specified the site you want to migrate your subscribers to. Can you please also confirm whether you’re speaking of https://www.outmaxed.com?
Noting that site is not loading for me at the moment, and the Jetpack debugger indicates Jetpack is unable to communicate with the site:
We can still migrate the subscribers to that site for you, but they won’t see your posts in the Reader/receive email notifications for new posts until those issues are fixed.
Please contact your hosting provider and make sure XML-RPC is turned on for your site.
For more help with this, you can find the Jetpack support forums at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack/

Hi kokkieh,
Thank you! That was very clear.
A few things:
1. My server is on Google Cloud. I manage it fully.
2. My final (production) server is not up right now. I have a development server right now (https://www.outmaxed.com is the correct domain/site, but it currently points to a non-production/non-final server. I’m not ready to migrate just yet, I’ve been documenting the process that I will be taking. The “outmaxed” domain is unreachable because I have the server offline).
3. Would I just request someone from support to migrate the subscribers when I am ready?I am targeting this weekend to have the production server up and ready.
I’ll also make sure XML-RPC is turned on before requesting the migration. -
That is correct yes. Once the site is online and connected via Jetpack, you actually should be able to transfer the subscribers via https://jetpack.com/support/subscription-migration-tool/
If that doesn’t work though, we can take care of it for you, but the site will still need to be online and connected.

Hi kokkieh and macmanx,
Thank you for your patience. My original target of last weekend to go live was not reached. But I am now ready.
My new site is currently hosted at WeMaxedOut.com.
My old site is at the location WeMaxedOut.wpcomstaging.com.I’d like to migrate my subscribers from WeMaxedOut.wpcomstaging.com to WeMaxedOut.com.
I tried the Subscription Migration Tool once more and still can’t find my site.
I’ve verified XML-RPC is turned on and that Jetpack is installed on both sites.
I have also verified that my new site is connected to my main WordPress account (and thus it shows up under the full list of sites).
I’ve also verified with “jptools.com” that “Everything looks great” for my new site. The current roadblock must be the improper downgrade form the Business to Free account.
I have backed up WeMaxedOut.wpcomstaging.com.
I wouldn’t think this migration process will delete the old site, but I do wish to keep it in case I go to a Business Plan on a WordPress-hosted site later. So, may I please have your help migrating my subscribers from WeMaxedOut.wpcomstaging.com to WeMaxedOut.com?
Thank you!
