Migrated followers too early. Can I migrate them back to .com

  • Unknown's avatar

I am in the process of moving from wordpress.com to a self hosted site using wordpress.org and WPEngine.

In my excitement at getting going over the weekend I stupidly transferred my followers to my .org site without thinking about how long it will take me to make sure the new theme is all working etc.

My domain name is still routed to my wordpress.com site and I am still blogging there. Hopefully the new website will be ready in a few days but it is taking me longer than I first thought.

Can I migrate the followers back to my current blog until I am ready for them on the new site?

    Thanks
    Clare

Thank you very much. I am more than happy to be patient and wait for help, it was, after all, not the brightest move I’ve ever made.

Just to be clear @yarnandpointysticks, you would like the subscribers moved back to the following WordPress.com URL:

    http://yarnandpointysticks.wordpress.com/

    Is that correct?

    Hi,

I wonder if I have misunderstood how followers work. Do people follow my http://www.yarnandpointysticks.com URL when they click follow. If so do I need to change anything if I am going to be keeping that URL with the new wordpress.org blog.

Apologies about my confusion, this is all a very new process to me.

    Thanks

    Hi @yarnandpointysticks,

Followers on WordPress.com are assigned to your default WordPress.com address (yarnandpointysticks.wordpress.com) not the domain you have registered under that blog. The .wordpress.com version is just the admin URL at WordPress.com. Followers there will receive notification of new posts on yarnandpointysticks.com provided your domain is pointed back there.

I’m relatively certain you want your followers moved back to yarnandpointysticks.wordpress.com where your domain yarnandpointysticks.com is currently pointed. Could you confirm?

    Yes please you are correct.

Thank you for your patience and help with this.

Note a problem Clare! I went ahead and moved them over. Let us know if you need anything else.
