Was originally told it would take 12 hrs; now after migration told it will take 72 hours; Wasn’t told this Migrated to same website address Now have 2 different sites Can’t access the .org site Have posts there but not showing Happiness engineer not returning emails. Don’t know what to tell my authors Very frustrated

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • The transfer itself takes about 12 hours, but the propagation of the domain takes up to 72 hours, and that we have no control over.

When a domain is registered or altered, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain name is passed to internet service providers all over the world. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During that time, you may also receive a warning message in your browser about “redirect errors”. Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your internet service provider updates their records. Please rest assured that everything is proceeding normally with your domain.

As for your emails, we should be getting back to you shortly.

@keepthedomeloud-does it help you to know that I can already see the site at its domain?

If you want to see how your domain is propagating, you can check this site. http://www.whatsmydns.net/ YMMV

Your site loads fine for me also – due to caching issues etc you will be the last one to see the changes

Can see the .com website with older article but none of the new articles that have been published at .org Accessed .org this morning but can’t get back in now. No one else can log in to post articles.

I understand that the migration takes time but someone should have told that this would take place as well as tell me what to look for to determine the site is back up. We are authors not really technies. Need hand holding. Don’t know what to tell our authors and editors.

    Thank you

  • Hang in there, the folks that are working with you via email are the one who can help you through this.

Ok, maybe they can but the response is so delayed.

Why can’t you see your sign in at all times to access the dashboard and posting capabilities? When you post, it goes to website and you have to back browse to get back to dashboard to post again.

At .com, you could see your signin at top right to post. What do I tell people to do.

Also, why is it so complicated to connect to twitter and Facebook. .com makes it so intuitive, can’t something be developed for something simple like. com? It will take me a while to research how to do what should be relatively simple. The reason why we used WordPress was because it was so simple and easy. .org doesn’t seem to be easy for our type of user.

  • Please keep in mind that WordPress.com and WordPress.org are entirely separate entities and do operate quite a bit differently at times.

The Publicize feature that you refer to here is only available on WordPress.com, but you can get similar functionality with http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/facebook/ for Facebook and http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-twitter-connect/ for Twitter.

WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress via their Codex and Support Forums.
