MIgrateGuru issue, Jetpack error “The URL stored by the Jetpack servers…”

  • Unknown's avatar

Our site is hosted at WP.com. We set up a staging server (Settings>Hosting Config) to test a new theme. We went to migrate that theme yesterday using Migrate Guru as advised and the migration failed for some reason. We reverted back and now Jetpack is not connected. Clicking “Set up Jetpack” resolves in an error:

Invalid request, please go back and try again.
    Error Code: invalid_request
Error Message: The URL stored by the Jetpack servers does not match your site. Please try disabling the Jetpack plugin, re-enable it, then connect again.

Since Jetpack is embedded within all WP.com hosted sites there is no option to disable.

Our Mailchimp forms relied on Jetpack so the contact page is now down.

I need to get this resolved AND the staging site migrated live ASAP but I’m not sure where to begin. I submitted a help ticket but it’s weekend hours and I’m waiting.

Thanks for any input you can provide!

  • Hey there,

Happy to help you with this.

It looks like there a was critical error during the migration, which caused Jetpack to disconnect.

I’ve done some digging there and it looks like it was perhaps a one-off incident that happened, and so I can’t foresee this happening again.

Out of curiosity – do you need to run another migration? If yes, you should be able to run this again.

I hope this helps in the meantime!

Thank you! I still haven’t gotten an email response so this is helpful. My main/live site is disconnected from JetPack, am I able to run a migration without that connection? My staging site appears to be connected to Jetpack.

My goal is to make the staging site replace the live site (both are hosted on WP.com). Should I just try to run Migration Guru again?

Update, someone from WP must have helped because Jetpack is reconnected and there’s a bunch of activity in the log that none of my admins did on the site. Main site is working fine.

However, we still need to get the site that is on staging to overwrite the live site. They are in the SAME Wp.com account.

    Staging site: https://staging-99e3-changefatiguecom.wpcomstaging.com/
    Main/parent site (same account): changefatigue.com

    Any advice appreciated.

  • Hi there,

The Jetpack connection is designed to try and heal itself, so that may be why it is reconnected. If you try again with MigrateGuru are you able to proceed?

Also, I checked on your staging site (vs. the live site) and compared a few pages that look pretty much identical. Out of curiosity what are the changes you are trying to move over? It may help if we can take a closer look to see if that is something that may be causing the issue. Thanks for the additional info!

We did get Migrate Guru to work today (yay!) and the pages seem to have moved fine (our original site was on a totally different theme). We are now getting an error on the main site when we try to view Installed Plugins or the Jetpack dashboard (Error: Invalid nonce) but hoping that this self-healing thing you mention works soon. If not I’ll post again and see if you can help. Thanks!

The Happiness Engineers in chat were able to reset Jetpack and told me this often happens with migrations – just sharing in case anyone else runs across this. Don’t migrate your site during after-hours when chat isn’t available, lesson learned!

  • Thanks for the update, @betterwaytosayit!

Hello and good day. I was just reading through as I am facing a similar issue. I recently used AIO WP migration to try to move over our staging site to production. We are now faced with a Jetpack disconnect error among also not being to see the pages even though they show published, and also can not add/edit any plugins as it will then ask me to log in. Thank you in advance for any help in this matter.

Forgot to ask, should I open a separate ticket/case?

@greekone79 – while logged in open a chat with Support, they were able to help right away. Good luck!
