Migrating

I am trying to migrate my site from wix via cms2cms. I have purchased a theme from them and am ready to move my site over. I am having problems installing a bridge connection in the root folder with FTP.

If this fails the other option is to install the cms2cms pluggin but I don’t have the pluggin option on my dashboard

    Can you help

  • It sounds like you are looking at instructions for moving to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. While related, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different entities.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

WordPress.com does not have FTP access nor plugin functionality (though WordPress.org has both). This may leave you in a tough spot, because I do not believe that Wix offers the ability to export content as an xml file (which is how WordPress.com imports content). You may be better served to set up a self-hosted WordPress.org site if migrating that content is crucial to your site plans.

Ok that makes sense to me. I have a whatbox account set up can I host my site from there. If so what do I have to do to get started

  • WordPress.org has complete documentation and support sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at http://codex.wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.org/support/
