Migrating a website using WordPress back up files
-
Good day.
I would like to know how to use WordPress back up files to import a site to a new WordPress hosting service.
I had a hosting service with WordPress and I backed up my site and got a .zip file. I just bought a new hosting service (different plan) and I need to migrate my site using the back up file I downloaded.
When I try to import it, the instructions say I need a WXR file (.xml). However, upon decompressing the .zip, I don’t see a .xml file to use.
I kindly request the community’s help on this.
Thanks! -
I apologize for my question. I was downloading a back up file from the wrong place (GoDaddy vs WordPress directly). I have downloaded the correct .xml file and I’m in the process of Importing it.

Hi there!
Thank you for considering WordPress.com as your new home for your website! You can certainly run the migration manually if you have all the website files and the database one(.sql) or do it through an .XML file, however, please note that the latter will only import the content(posts, pages, images and comments) and not the website customizations.
