Migrating a WordPress.com blog to .org with Hostgator hosting & GoDaddy domain!

Hi, my situation doesn’t quite fit any header!

I have my WordPress.com blog with the .wordpress.com extension. It was originally a different blog name while I searched for a custom domain I liked.

I found one and registered with GoDaddy (not entirely sure why I did that!).

I now want to migrate the blog to WordPress.org and apply my custom domain.

My challenge is I can find many help topics on one part or another, but I am not at all sure the order in which I should take the steps.

Should I transfer the domain name registration from GoDaddy to WordPress.com first and just get the domain to point to my blog and THEN migrate it to WordPress.org via my hosting site Hostgator??

    Or……………..

Migrate the blog as it is from .com to .org and then transfer the registration of my GoDaddy domain to WordPress.org?

    Or……………………..

Something else completely? As with many others, I apologise for the newbie questions and thanks in advance for your help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The domain registration can be separate from the hosting provider. People do it all the time. However, if you like to have your invoices all in one place, you could move your domain to HostGator. For new accounts, you can transfer a domain name for free after the domain is 60 days old.

From what I recall, it cost more money to have it at WordPress. I’d probably move your site over to HostGator first (their team can probably even do this since they offer free site transfers) and then you can point your domain to HostGator. If you don’t know to do that, hit them up on live chat and they’ll help

Thank you so much, kpness! One day maybe I will know enough to help someone else in turn :-)
