migrating/archiving site
-
Hi there! I’ve closed down my business, but I’d still like to keep my website up for archival purposes. No one will be visiting the site, so the subdomain is fine. Can you tell me how I can achieve this on a free basis? I know other platforms like Wix allows for this. Thanks so much. :)

Hi there – I checked on the site URL you shared and it looks like that site is hosted through another company (SiteGround). You shared…
I’d still like to keep my website up for archival purposes. No one will be visiting the site, so the subdomain is fine.
With this in mind, it sounds like you are OK with something like the following, which is an example of a free WordPress.com subdomain: tadaywellness.wordpress.com (we are not yet sure this is available, we will be checking).
It looks like you used our Migration Trial offer to migrate your site to your account here. There are a couple of important things to mention about that:
- That feature migrates the entire site, including any themes and plugins you had installed.
- To serve this site on our free plan, on a subdomain, the themes and plugins would be removed (because that ability to install and use those features exists on our Business and higher plans). This means only your page and post content would appear on your site. But, for archival purposes, perhaps this would suffice?
Let us know if you have any questions about this information I’ve shared so far. Very generally speaking, this should be possible. It would be considered a downgrade from what you have currently – you would lose the theme and plugins. Can you let us know if you are OK with the downgrade? Once we know that we can investigate the subdomain URL availability and move forward from there. :)
