Migrating email followers help please

  • Unknown's avatar

    I am trying to migrate the email followers from marie-gon.com/blog to marie-gon.com.
    But the only site available to migrate from is grietjegoedkoop.wordpress.com.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Ideally the email followers need to be migrated to a totally different account. Is that possible? If not, please help me transferring them to marie-gon.com.
    Thank you,
    Grietje

    Hi Grietje,

    Please clarify from where to where do you want to transfer followers, because marie-gon.com/blog is only a page of same website marie-gon.com?

    Have you used Jetpack subscribers migration as explained here https://jetpack.com/support/subscription-migration-tool/ ?

    So you do not need to migrate followers from/to grietjegoedkoop.wordpress.com ?

    I look forward to hearing from you!

    Yes, I used the migrating tool but that offers only migration from grietjegoedkoop.wordpress.com.

    Like I mentioned: I am trying to migrate the email followers from marie-gon.com/blog to marie-gon.com.

    I believe it’s not possible to upload a screenshot, so I’ll try to describe what I see when I press “switch site”:

    grietjegoedkoop.wordpress.com
    another .wordpress.com
    marie-gon.com/blog
    marie-gon.com

    https://marie-gon.com is a multisite.

    Hi again @grietjegoedkoop,

    Its a pity that the email followers have to be transferred to/from account not related to WordPress.com, because we do not have access to files hosted elsewhere than WordPress.com.

    I can only offer you to seek more help in WordPress.org community forums or try to use plugins to transfer email followers between WordPress.org accounts:
    1) Download existing email followers. For that you can download CSV file here: https://wordpress.com/people/ and press “Download Data as CSV”. Or you can use any suitable plugin, like Export any WordPress data.
    2) Import email followers to another account using plugins like Import any XML or CSV File to WordPress or Import Export WordPress Users and WooCommerce Customers.

    Please revert if that helps? In any case, we would be happy to hear from you!

    @maksimurasov are you working for wordpress or jetpack?
    Do you have access to my account?
    if not how can I show a screenshot of my wordpress account?
    It includes both marie-gon.com and marie-gon.com/blog (which is a sub site of marie-gon.com )
    Is Jetpack something else than WordPress?

    What a frustrating situation…

    Hi again @grietjegoedkoop,

    Thank you for additional questions, that helps to find a way out :)

    There are two types of WordPress: WordPress.com and WordPress.org. We are now on .com forum now.

    So grietjegoedkoop.wordpress.com and another .wordpress.com are hosted on WordPress.com, we can manage files hosted there.
    But
    marie-gon.com and marie-gon.com/blog are hosted on Hostnet as I see here, so we can not access files laying there. You can probably ask Hostnet support to move your email subscribers.

    As long as you use Jetpack, you can see all those websites in one account, that is normal. But that does not mean they are all hosted on WordPress.com.

    Jetpack is a “mega plugin”, which can be used on both WordPress.com and WordPress.org. Jetpack could help to transfer email subscribers only from/to WordPress.com hosted websites.

    So as long you need to transfer email subscribers from WordPress.org to another WordPress.org website, the only way I see is to download them as CSV and upload to another website (even in same account) using plugins. Or ask hosting provider Hostnet to move them, maybe that will work too.

    Hope that clarifies a little?
    If you have more questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

  • Hi there,

    I am trying to migrate the email followers from marie-gon.com/blog to marie-gon.com.

    I don’t see any Jetpack connection for https://marie-gon.com/blog/.

    I do see a blog.marie-gon.com, and that takes me to marie-gon.com/blog when I try to visit it. Did you perhaps have the site at that other domain when you originally connected Jetpack? I currently see 70 subscribers on that site.

    If so, that’s the one you need to select to transfer your subscribers.

    I’m also happy to do the migration for you. I’ll just need your confirmation that that’s the correct site :)

    @maksimurasov
    ,

    The only way to migrate Jetpack subscribers from one site to another is using Jetpack’s subscription migration tool, or else for staff to migrate them using our internal tools. Downloading a CSV as you suggest above will not work to migrate Jetpack subscribers.

    If you’re unsure of the answer, please tag the thread for staff instead so we can help. If you search for similar requests here in the forums you’ll also find many past threads where we’ve helped with this process.

    @kokkieh That’s exactly it! I already forgot about blog.marie-gon.com.
    Very good of you to figure that out.

    The multisite marie-gon.com started with subdomains so blog.marie-gon.com, english.marie-gon.com etc. Because SSL works only with subfolders I had to change the setup of the multisite resulting in marie-gon.com/blog, marie-gon.com/english etc.

    Yes please, migrate the 70 subscribers from blog.marie-gon.com to marie-gon.com. That would be fantastic! Thanks a million for finding out the root of the problem.

    Hi @kokkieh,

    Thank you for the feedback.
    I was preparing a long reply. Basically, I see that Jetpack debugger shows error, so maybe there is reconnection needed and then migration tool shall work?

    I have checked with Jetpack debugger tool here https://jptools.wordpress.com/debug/, I see this:
    marie-gon.com/blog : Unknown error.
    marie-gon.com : Everything looks great!

  • @grietjegoedkoop,

    I’ve migrated the subscribers for you.

    If you want to disconnect that site from Jetpack as well, to remove it from your WordPress.com account, you can do it from here:

    https://wordpress.com/settings/manage-connection/marie-gon.com::blog

    @maksimurasov
    ,

    The Jetpack connection error is not relevant here – this is just a limitation of the subscription migration tool that prevented the OP from doing the migration themselves. You can see https://jetpack.com/support/subscription-migration-tool/ for more details.

    The Unknown Error for marie-gon.com/blog in this case is because the site was not connected to Jetpack under that URL, so the debugger doesn’t recognise that specific URL. But the site is there in @grietjegoedkoop’s account and the JP connection is working from what I can see.

  • Glad I could help :)

  • P.S., it appears the settings link I gave above is not displaying correctly. Make sure that when you try to visit it in your browser, the ::blog is included in the URL, else it will take you to settings for your other site without the /blog.

    Yes I saw that. No worries, I found the right page!
