Migrating existing iWeb website to WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

I have an existing blog/web site http://www.markuhrich.net that is hosted at Gandi. It was created and maintained using Apple iWeb which is no longer supported. I need to move to something else so that I can upgrade my MacOS. People have suggested that I use WordPress.

How to I migrate my existing web site to WordPress (still hosted at Gandi) — keeping my existing content?

Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Hi Mark,

So you want the new WordPress site to also be hosted at Gandi? In that case you’ll be using the open source version of WordPress, made by the community on WordPress.org. The forum you’re posting in now is for WordPress.com, a different hosting provider for our own modified version of the WordPress software.

We can only help with sites hosted on our servers in this forum, but I can at least point you in the right direction:

First, you’ll need to contact Gandi for their process of installing the WordPress software on a hosting plan with them.

Then (based on a quick Google search) you should be able to import the content from your iWeb site to the new WordPress site using the RSS importer plugin.

Once that is done, you’ll switch your domain over from the iWeb site to the new WordPress site – you’ll also need to ask Gandi support for help with that, as that’s something that has to be done on their servers.

For more questions about the open source version of WordPress you’ll be using over there, you can ask the WordPress.org community at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
