Migrating from Blogger – Merging templates for FTP publishing
-
I have published my blog at http://www.patiastephens.com using Blogger since 2004. My site is hosted at GoDaddy.
Now that Blogger is discontinuing its support for FTP publishing, I have imported all my posts into WordPress. Next step: How do I merge the WordPress code into my site template? I did it in Blogger but can’t figure out where the code is on WordPress. Do I need to upgrade to Custom CSS?
I’d appreciate any tips. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If your site is hosted at GoDaddy; upgrades for WP.com blogs etc do not apply to it. WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are different animals:

I was sent over here by people on the WordPress.org forums.
Are you saying that there is no way to access the code and publish via FTP on WordPress.com? Because I would much prefer to have a web-based blog interface than to be limited to blogging from software installed on my computer. I did that years ago with Radio Userland and it sucked.

There is no way to publish via FTP on WordPress.com. That is correct.
Without the exact URL of the blog you’re talking about, starting with http, I can’t tell for certain which type of WP it is.
-
I shouldn’t type so fast. http://www.patiastephens.com/ is definitely NOT hosted at WP.com.

@cowgrrrl, we can publish here, and with a wordpress.ORG blog, via XMLRPC, (via a blog editor client such as BlogDesk or Windows Live Writer), but there is no publishing via FTP, here or with a self-hosted blog since the post/page information has to be written to the MySQL database and you cannot do that via FTP. You cannot interface with the database via FTP.

OK, thanks.
I’m very surprised and discouraged that WP doesn’t offer FTP publishing. This may be the final nail in the coffin that makes me quit blogging.
Sigh.

For $ 5- 7 dollars per month you can hire a web host and get a free software install from wordpress.ORG. Then you will have a blog with FTP access. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

I already have a web host — GoDaddy.
So if I install WordPress.org software on my server, will I be able to blog from a web-based interface?
-
Yes, and it’ll be virtually indistinguishable from WordPress.com. We get tons of people here every day who get the two confused, they’re so similar from the blogger’s perspective.

Does anybody know of an easy way to migrate a Frontpage website over to a wordpress site?
Thanks, Frank -
Not unless you’ve got an XML export. And even then, i’ts not terribly easy. Your best bet is to contact staff again on Monday http://support.wordpress.com/contact

OK, thanks. With some help from GoDaddy customer service, I’ve just updated my server there in order to install WordPress, which they make available on the site. Hopefully I’ll be able to figure out the rest.
