Migrating from HostGator to WordPress
-
Hi guys,
Currently my site is being hosted by Host Gator, using the WordPress plugin etc… but the cost of running it is getting too much.
I want to bring the domain and site back over to the WordPress servers.I’m a little confused if it’s already there considering it shows up when I open my WordPress account, meaning it will just port straight back over or if there is something I need to do.
Can anyone explain to me how to do this?
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi
You can follow the instructions found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
It is whoing up probably because you connected the previous site with Jetpack plugin, is that right?
Take a look on the page above and contact us again if needed.
cheers

Thanks pedger,
Just wondering though, when I log into wordpress.com my site is already there under the free plan.
Does that actually mean that it’s being hosted on the WordPress.com servers?Regards,
Jono

No. http://jptrainingsystems.com/ is not hosted by wordpress.COM. It appears as a URL on your My Sites page because it is linked via the Jetpack plugin.
jptrainingsystems.com is hosted by Unified Layer

@Staff
After 9 years of answering the questions of those who are already confused by the differences between wordpress.com and wordpress.org software installs and not posting to the correct support forums for each one, we are faced with even more confusion re: Jetpack sites as described above, and that`s in addition to the Jetpack support requests being posted here. Please provide clarity on this separation in a new My Sites support doc https://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=my+sites

How can I go about moving my site to be hosted by WordPress then?
I am choosing not to answer that question now as this thread is tagged for Staff intervention. Please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

How can I go about moving my site to be hosted by WordPress then?
did you read the instruction in the link you were given in the first answer to you above??
-
Yeah, I did auxclass.
Problem is though that my WordPress site already shows up when I log into WordPress, which means I can’t import it over.
-
And that is exactly why I tagged this thread for Staff intervention. I assume you may have to disconnect the self hosted site from Jetpack as described here https://en.support.wordpress.com/disconnect-jetpack-sites/ but I want Staff to assist you just in case I am wrong about this.

@jonoprecel
I apologize for what I just posted above because it makes no sense. Please just wait for Staff to sort your issue out. -
Hi folks, @jonoprecel has several sites on WordPress.com and one site connected via Jetpack, hence the confusion. This isn’t the typical situation when someone is importing here, which is why the docs don’t really address it. We are happy to help though.
There is no need to disconnect Jetpack right away. @jonoprecel, do you want to import into one of your existing WordPress.com sites, or do you want to create a new site and import into that?
If you want to import into a new site, create it here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/start/For now, give it a slightly different title than your Jetpack connected site so it will be easy to tell the difference.
Then import your old content: en.support.wordpress.com/import
After the import, make sure your images and what not have properly loaded into the media library. Then we can help you move over Jetpack subscribers if you’d like.
Finally, disconnect Jetpack, point the domain here, and close out your hosting account. You’ll want to be sure to keep your domain renewed wherever it’s registered.
I hope that helps!

Thanks @supernovia.
Of course I jumped the gun and disconnected my jetpack site and just paid to map the domain.
I want to keep the original domain of http://www.jptrainingsystems.com
Cheers.

Alright, if everything is set up as you like it now, that’s fine. If you want to migrate information from the old site, let us know and we’ll help go back a bit so you can complete the steps I’d listed the other day. Cheers!
