migrating from KNOL
-
I am trying to import my Knols, I can’t do it when starting from Knol, neither when doing it from WordPress (actually I get the same error message)
can I import by pointing to the exported file from Knol; where is that tool ?

Hi Kardotim
I don’t need to “learn” with a how to, when all the process is automated
NOW, when I started the migrating process, at first it went well, I got the two first lines checked but then it stopped, no error message but I received an email :“Howdy stefjourdan!
Google is currently reporting an error with generating your Knol export file and we could not download it.
Google Takeout might have more details on the status of your export and you might be able to download it from https://www.google.com/takeout/#download
If all seems well there, you can try to import again by signin-in with your existing WordPress.com account and selecting the blog you had intended to import to.
If you are stil having issues, please contact support: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?partner=knol“
by the way : “still” takes two “l”
then I tried to do it by loging in WordPress and trying to import my knols, but I arrived to the same transfer page, the first two line were checked in the same maner, and I received the same email again
so that’s why I am here, because this thing doesn’t work, because “I’m still having issues”
no to be told I can “learn” how to do it with a tutorial for young children under 4, sorry
please find why it doesnt work or find somebody who can fix it, maybe you are paid by Google, you “staff”, I’am not.

Can you please try downloading your export file from https://www.google.com/takeout/#download ?
-
Yes I have successfully downloaded my files (by the way, there are two files, one big like 50 MB and one small like 1 MB ??? I wonder why)
(I had already made a backup like that last month, but some of my knols have been updated)
anyway I have downloaded the two, but it is not usefull for migrating to WordPress ? is it ? has WordPress a tool for importing from a file ?
-
Ok, that’s good that you get the files at least. Hold on to them, we may be able to do some conversion on this end, and we’ll let you know as soon as we know.
-
I have the files, err, I don’t know what’s actually in them
how come the people at Google or at Annotum have designed a tool for migrating, and this tool doesn’t work ? it’s just text with some images, links, etc. not rocket science
one of my Knols doesn’t appear anymore in the list, so even if I could migrate it by hand, I couldn’t redirect it manually
I have seen that one Knol author has is whole list of knols missing
I’m seriously considering moving to “elsewhere”
-
I’m not sure, Google’s migration assistant should work, but I can’t speak for Google.
As for the missing Knol, you’ll need to get in touch with Google about that.
We’ll let you know as soon as we have a solution for getting your export files on a WordPress.com blog.
-
“As for the missing Knol, you’ll need to get in touch with Google about that” : are you kidding ? you are not aware of the sad Knol story ?
“We’ll let you know as soon as we have a solution for getting your export files on a WordPress.com blog.” you mean you work for or with WordPress ?
I hope you guys can implement this fonction VERY soon because after april, it will be impossible to redirect the knols
-
I am aware of it, but we’re WordPress.com, just another option of where to move your Knol blog to. We don’t have any control over how Knol operates. Knol is a Google property.
Yes, I mean that I’ll let you know as soon as we have a solution for getting your exported Knol content into a WordPress.com blog, as Google’s migration assistant is not working for you.

“I am aware of it, but we’re WordPress.com, just another option of where to move your Knol blog to. We don’t have any control over how Knol operates. Knol is a Google property.” Yes, sorry to be so angry, I understand you’re not Google, not paid by Google, not owning Google, just in case you meet those Google guys one day, tell them how much I’m angry, and that if I can stop using any of their products one day, I will
Yes, I mean that I’ll let you know as soon as we have a solution for getting your exported Knol content into a WordPress.com blog, as Google’s migration assistant is not working for you.
very kind of you, cheers, have a good day

Not a problem, I understand the frustration. We’ll let you know as soon as we have something.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much we can do from this end, as the error they’re giving us is not documented. Would you please tell us your Knol username so we can ask them to take a look?
-
Hi, and thanks a lot for following up this problem
yes my Knol name is : Stephane JOURDAN
http://knol.google.com/k/stephane-jourdan/-/3dfvm2oyvur0n/0#collections
are you aware that I’m not alone, I know at least 3 other knolers that had the same error when trying to migrate ?
by the way, I don’t put a lot of hope in the help you will be able to get from Google/knol, why don’t we rather concentrate on something usefull, like having a device in WordPress to import (one by one) those .mht archives that can be created with Internet Explorer (a browser made by a tiny firm in Redmont)
-
yes my Knol name is : Stephane JOURDAN
That seems to be your full name, but what about your account username?
are you aware that I’m not alone, I know at least 3 other knolers that had the same error when trying to migrate ?
I’m sure there are others, but we’ll need them to contact us.
-
” what about your account username?”
I gave you a link macmanx ??? on this link, you have my unique identifier in Knol
yes, sure, they need to contact you but they have posted like everywhere in the panic, for now probably, they have given up with the idea of having something working from Knol (but I shall try to tell them we are mananing the problem, errrrr)
