Migrating from Weebly to wordpress
-
I am trying to migrate form weebly to wordpress. As soon as everything is set up, I will purchase a plan. I just want to make sure everything is working first. I have read tons of articles, followed the steps, but I am getting an error 413 status code. Below is what I did:
1) I went to my weebly site and downloaded a ziplock file from weebly.
2) I went to my wordpress site, Clicked My Site-Tools-import
3) I clicked Square space (assuming this is for weebly)
4) uploaded the ziplock file.
However, I am getting an error code.
What should I do? Am I doing this wrong?
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I followed all steps and was able to migrate from Weebly to WordPress.
I see all my bog posts, however, the pictures are not showing.
On the last step where I went to “Import your Content from Weebly”, I did not see the last three pictures in the article you sent me. On my screen, I saw everything in the following order:
Tools – Import- Choose form full list – WordPress -Run Importer
After uploading the file, I hit start import.
The last three pictures on the article you sent me were not an option. However, everything transferred over fine except for the pictures. What should I do?

Hi there,
These imports can be tricky since Weebly and WordPress are two different platforms and not designed to be interoperable exactly.
However before we troubleshoot, I should probably mention that that the import can take some time (especially media) depending on how much content you are importing from Weebly. With this in mind I recommend waiting 24 hours or so to make sure that any missing images have time to import fully.
Also I noticed that in your imported posts, the images are attempting to link to mathangel369.weebly.com but if I attempt to visit that URL I am redirected to mathangel369.com which is a custom domain that you have with Google Domains.
It is possible that this could cause some confusion during the import, do you have the option to switch your Weebly site back to the default weebly.com domain and re-try the import? Any existing content will not be duplicated. The importer will only upload new content that hasn’t already been uploaded.
Thanks for the additional info!

I currently have an up and running website with Weebly connected to a domain mathangel369.com, which is a custom domain from google.
My intention is to move my custom domain from Weebly to WordPress, but before I do that, I would like to have everything migrated over to WordPress successfully so that my customers do not see the construction chaos.
To answer your question, I would prefer not to set my website back to the weebly.com default, unless this is something I can do temporarily and quickly and to be able to change it back to my custom domain, giving me more time to get WordPress looking the way I want.
After WordPress looks the way I want, I will Purchase a plan and transfer mathangel369.com to WordPress.

Hi there,
I’m checking if we’re able to pull in the missing images from our end, but there’s no guarantee it will work – our tool for this was created to import images from another WordPress site, and I’ve never tried it on a different platform like Weebly. But let’s give that a few hours, then check if the images are on your site.
If it doesn’t work, switching to the Weebly domain is the only other thing we can try. As Jerry mentioned above, the image URLs in your posts reference the Weebly domain, not your custom domain, which could be preventing the importer from finding the images it needs to import.
If that doesn’t work either, you might need to copy those images over manually. Weebly doesn’t offer a way to export your content with them, so this entire import process is really just a series of hacks, also involving a third party tool we have no control over, and as such isn’t guaranteed to work perfectly every time.

My pictures still are not showing up. I may need assistance for how to switch to the Weebly domain, then I will try again.
If I cannot get my pictures to show after importing again, then I will do them manually.
Also, if you would recommend someone that I can hire to help me get everything set up on WordPress, I would really appreciate it.
I have been playing around with the themes, and sometimes when I change themes, I lose everything I worked or cannot get back to a page I was working on.

We’re relatively easy to use, so you might not need to hire someone.

I temporarily switched back to mathangel369.weebly.com and went through the whole process of importing my content from Weebly to WordPress.
I am still cannot see my images in my blog.
Please note that the photos that are showing are the ones I manually uploaded myself; but I still cannot see the others.
Also note that I reconnected my domain to weebly after the import so that my customers do not see the construction process in between my switch.
Is my only alternative to uploading every picture manually? There is no other way?

Hi there,
In terms of options on our end, there is no other way. However, I know that there are several users who have had success migrating their site from Weebly to WordPress via the 3rd party tool created by WPBeginner. It might be worth a try before going the manual route. You can find the instructions here:
https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-properly-move-from-weebly-to-wordpress/
Again, this is a 3rd party tool not associated with WordPress.com, so we can not attest to its effectiveness.
Hope this helps.

The link you have provided is how I did my import. I do see all my images in the media library, however it is not showing in my blog. It just has an empty space that says “picture” in my blog. I just want to make sure I have done everything I can before I attempt to upload them manually.

Hi @mathangel369,
Looking at your About – MathAngel369 page, I see what you mean:
And viewing the source for the image, it’s referencing
mathangel369.weebly.com, as shown in this code:<img style="width: auto; max-width: 100%;" src="http://mathangel369.weebly.com//uploads/1/3/2/6/132697819/p386.png" alt="Picture">As you can see, this isn’t referencing your custom domain, rather Weebly. The image link above is also broken. For example, the first link doesn’t work:
- http://mathangel369.com/uploads/1/3/2/6/132697819/p386.png
In this case, I recommend updating your image links with those stored in your media library.
