Migrating from Wix

  • Unknown's avatar

I am following the steps for migrating from Wix to WordPress from the following site:
    https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-properly-switch-from-wix-to-wordpress-step-by-step/

I am getting this error on step 4: ‘There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.’

I have tried increasing the PHP execution time but that is still not working. The site I am trying to migrate is spillingthesweettea.com and /feed.xml gives me a 404 error so I am using /blog-feed.xml to pull the blogs.

Is there anything else I can try to make this work properly?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Your site is not hosted on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at another hosting provider. So I’m afraid we have no control over or access to it to help with this.

The RSS feed import plugin built into WordPress hasn’t been updated in over 4 years, so it’s very possible it doesn’t work properly any more. There also hasn’t been any activity in that plugin’s forum in over two years, which tells me it’s not used a lot.

But you can try asking the WordPress.org community over at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ – those are the people who make and support the version of WordPress you’re using on your site.

Alternatively you can try a different plugin – I took a look through the plugin directory over on WordPress.org, and found https://wordpress.org/plugins/import-xml-feed/ which specifically mentions they support Wix imports, so perhaps give that a try.
