Migrating from Wix to WordPress
-
I am looking to migrate our website from Wix to WordPress.
As such, would you kindly let me know the correct order of operations to do so.
We have a 3rd party domain and web hosting service provider that we would like to stick with. Also, on a basic level, can we make a website on WordPress for free? If not, when would we have to pay for it? If we have to pay for services, would it be possible to do so after we have migrated the site but before publishing it? It is important to us to be able to review on WordPress before paying for the service.
While we are a company that uses our site for our business purposes, it does not get 100s of thousands of visits per month, so I don’t believe that we would need a package that would support a high volume site. What would be the best option for us?
Thank you for reading and your help.

Hi there,
I see you already have a WordPress.com site.
So next, go to My Site ->Tools ->Import, select Wix, and follow the prompts to migrate your Wix site’s content to us:
Then you can customize your site, and once you’re ready, map/transfer the domain over to us. Using your own domain on a WordPress.com site requires a paid plan.

You will need to buy a paid plan before you’ll be able to move the domain to us, but you can do the content migration while on the free plan.

All sites on WordPress.com, including free sites, come with unlimited bandwidth, so the number of visitors you receive is irrelevant. With our upgrade plans you pay for the features you want to use, so if all you want is the ability to use your own custom domain, the Personal Plan will be sufficient. Or if you want the ability to set up an online store, you’ll need the Business Plan, as that would require the use of plugin.
You can see the features included in each of our plans here:
