Migrating from Wix to WordPress
-
Hi There, I hope someone can signpost me the the relevant documents to read about migrating from website from Wix to WordPress.
I have sourced a new web hosting service in anticipation. The website to be migrated has fewer than 60 pages.
Is there an easier way to migrate? What is the difference between wordpress and wordpress.com?
Do wordpress offer discounts to charities on their upgrade price plans?
Many thanks
Tolu

Hey there! I’ll definitely post the support link on how to import to WordPress.com, but first let’s make sure you’re on the right track with where you’re trying to go. Here at WordPress.com, you don’t have to already have a separate web hosting service, because everything is done here. In other words, WordPress.com allows you to build your site and they host it for you, as well.
Wordpress.org is a separate system in which you download the open source WordPress software and the site is hosted through a company of your choosing. Just based on your post, it sounds like that may be the track your on.
Either way, I’m going to try to point you in the right direction! If you want to have the website hosted by the service you choose, then your best bet for support would be over at the following link:
https://wordpress.org/support/
If you wish to host everything here and build the site through WordPress.com, here is a great link on how to import your site from Wix:

Thank you for sharing this insightful information.
I have another question.
How easy is it to import themes from another provider into WordPress. e.g. import themes from Envato Element.
Thank you

Hi there!
How easy is it to import themes from another provider into WordPress. e.g. import themes from Envato Element.
I assume you’re referring to WordPress themes found on other sites (like on Envato websites). There are two things to note here about importing themes from another provider:
1. On WordPress.com, you can use third-party themes by upgrading to the WordPress.com Business plan. You can learn more about our plans and pricing here: https://wordpress.com/pricing – Third-party theme here refers to a theme that’s not on our theme gallery.
2. Different themes have different setup/import instructions. Once you’ve uploaded the theme to your WordPress.com site, you will need to follow the theme-specific instructions to import any demo content (if you want) and to set up the theme. Most themes come with documentation, but you can also reach out to theme support for assistance.Hope that helps!
