Migrating from WordPress.com to WordPress.org
-
I am trying to migrate my domain that I have through WordPress.com over to WordPress.org. I am not a tech person. I’m just trying to get my online store to work. I have researched how to do this and every website I look at gives a different set of instructions, some of which match up to what I see on my screen and some don’t. Can someone PLEASE help me migrate to wordpress.org so I can finally get my online store to work correctly?
My domain just renewed so I’m getting funky messages related to that. Idk if I need to wait another week or two or what I need to do. I just really need some help getting migrated over and then I think I can handle it from there. I was told I need to get a host to go with WordPress.org so I got BlueHost. I’m not sure how to make BlueHost work with WordPress.org either. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hey there @daysofourlivesgenealogy, would you be willing to contact our support team here?
https://wordpress.com/help/contactYou could contact your new host for help with migration. But the plan you have here comes with chat support, and I noticed you haven’t utilized that yet. There’s likely a simpler fix to the issues you’re having. I’d recommend reaching out there first.

Hi there,
If you have a site hosted at WordPress.com and are thinking of moving to a self-hosted WordPress site (WordPress.org), please refer to the below link:
https://wordpress.com/support/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
This document talks about step-by-step instructions to accomplish the task.
Hope this helps! :)

I just want to add, too, because your plan supports plugins and has FTP access, you probably don’t need to go through the steps @amiteshg93 shared.
Your host can help you migrate.
Migrating would not fix a problem with the store, though, and your new host may not offer help with that. So I’d recommend trying support here, first.
Cheers!

Supernovia:
“But the plan you have here comes with chat support, and I noticed you haven’t utilized that yet. ”I looked for a chat feature and couldn’t ever find it. That’s why I’m here. Chat would be nice but if it can’t be found it’s not very helpful. Can you tell me where to look for it? It wasn’t anywhere I looked.

@amiteshg93, I was following that and it wasn’t working which is why I’m here. Thanks, though.

@supernovia, Shopify has already clarified they don’t work with WordPress.com and I have to go to WordPress.org. I’ve invested too much in Shopify to stay with WordPress.com at this point. So yeah, I do need to migrate. It would be nice if Shopify and WordPress.com could play nicely together but apparently that’s not going to happen.

@daysofourlivesgenealogy actually they may not be correct; the plan you have works very much like WordPress.org.
Can you reach out here with more details regarding the error you’re having?
