Migrating from WordPress/ Less than 60 day ownership

    Can I develop everything about my site within WordPress and then migrate my domain from GoDaddy at a later date? I won’t be carrying any content over from my GoDaddy site. I’d like to get everything setup while I wait for my 60 day ownership probationary period to end. I paid for GoDaddy March 17th so I am assuming June 18th I will be able to migrate with no problems? any advice and help is appreciated.

    The good news here is that you don’t need to wait 60 days to use your domain. You only need to wait 60 days to transfer it from one provider to another. In this scenario we can share with you the domain settings you need to connect your domain to WordPress.com, and those can be added to the settings within GoDaddy.

    This will allow your WordPress.com site to use that domain within a shorter timeframe (today, even!) and then after the 60 days are up we can seamlessly transfer the domain, which will result in zero downtime.

    Yes, you can fully set up your new site with us before pointing the domain here, and this is something we frequently recommend if the site needs to stay out of public view until it is ready.

    When you first create your site we will assign a staging subdomain (bemidjibouncehousecom.wordpress.com) you can use to get set up in private. When you are ready to “launch” the new site , that is when you will want to connect your domain or transfer if that option is available. When you are at that point we’re happy to walk you through the process in detail.

    Please note that free sites must use the free “wordpress.com” address, so to connect your domain you will need one of our plans listed here.

    If you choose the yearly (not monthly) billing option, it’s worth noting that the domain transfer is included free in the plan, and we also add a free year to the domain registration once the transfer is complete, so your renewal will be a year later than expected for some extra savings.
