migrating from wordpress.com to .org
-
I have hosting at wordpress.com as it won’t allow for plugins I wish to migrate. However I would like to transfer the site without the guided transfer fee how can I go about doing this as I have a web developer who is asking for the ftp server which I do not have access to? Also if I cancel my recent renewal will I still be able to migrate the site or will I have to start from scratch?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

May I ask which plugins you were interested in? I’m curious. :)

WordPress.com does not offer FTP access, but you may export blog content using the Tools > Export page in the blog’s dashboard.
I see that http://wordchamps.org/ is using the Debut theme. Note that premium themes currently cannot be exported because of how we’ve setup agreements with premium theme sellers, but that’s something we’re working on ideas for how to solve.

If you cancel your renewal, all the data will still be there. However, you should take care not to cancel the domain if you want to continue to use it. Instead, you should transfer the domain or update the name servers in order to point it to the web hosting account you purchase for your WordPress.org setup. You might want to wait until all the content has been successfully imported into the new test site before you make any changes to the domain because the import process might rely on the domain to pull images in some cases. I think that depends on how all of your content is setup. This kind of stuff is what the Guided Transfer team is really good at! You might consider it as an option if you try a transfer on your own and something goes awry.
