Migrating from WordPress.com to WordPress.org
-
I bought a custom domain name at wordpress.com and realized I couldn’t install custom themes on there so I signed up for a hosting plan over at Flywheel. Flywheel already has wordpress installed so I just uploaded my themes using FTP to the content/themes folder.
When I log into my wordpress, it’s still the same theme and the same wordpress.com admin panel. When I go into Appearances>Themes I don’t see the themes I’ve uploaded and I also see no option to install themes either. I’ve read literally all the support and help topics on wordpress.com, wordpress.org, flywheel and whatever I can find on google and I still can’t figure it out.
I’ve already pointed my domain to flywheel by changing the A record to the IP address Flywheel provided (although it still says ‘handled by WordPress.com’??). Flywheel doesn’t recommend changing the name servers and prefer to just change the A record.
I checked my domain (https://www.whatsmydns.net/) and it seems to be still pointing to wordpress and not flywheel. Why is it not switching?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Can you confirm the A record is pointing to your new IP address in the My Domains section of WordPress.com?
Propagation time can vary, but if you’ve made the change several hours ago and can confirm the settings in WordPress.com are pointing to your new IP address, the A record should have been propagated by now.

Wow, I just double checked and I realized I didn’t update the changes. I clicked ‘Save Changes’ instead of clicking ‘Add’ and then saving the changes.
Hours of frustration and searching the forums for answers and it was as simple as that! Thank you!
