Migrating identical structure from Dreamweaver to WP
-
I have an ancient 2,000 page site maintained via Dreamweaver CS3 with a complex structure and good Google page ranking. I’d like to move all content to WP.com, which will be a nightmare but necessary to modernise.
The key question is – can I maintain an identical URL structure on WP (with own domain name of course) in order to keep Google ranking?
Also can WP (Premium?) handle a thousand or so large images (e.g.1000×700 px) at a fair speed?
Thanks and plz excuse my ignorance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The thing about WP.com is that its URL structure (or called permalink) is fixed and can’t be changed.
You might want to look at the self-hosted version of WordPress (http://wordpress.org), which is more flexible when it comes to URL structures and can be changed to match your current site.

I was hoping to avoid .org as I’m no coder and it looks like .org needs constant maintenance from a dev dude.

Actually it doesn’t, although lots of consultants will tell you different. Just be sure and stay on top of your updates and you’ll be fine.

OK, hfzrhmn, had a look at .org vs .com comparison and it’s gotta be .org.
Thanks for your advice. -
thanks raincoaster, that’s reassuring.
Worth using one of the WP-connected servers that does updates for you?
Any recommendations? Those listed seem competent but US reviewers show quite scathing customer reports.
