Migrating my site away from the WP servers.
-
I want to migrate my current site https://fishinghardcore.wordpress.com/ to another hosting server so that I can install 3rd party plugins from wordpress.org. Will I be able to do this and maintain the current theme, content and assets from the site I designed on wordpress.com? Please advise. Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The theme you purchased here at WordPress.com will not transfer to a self hosted site. I’m happy to issue a refund for that. You can also find other related themes by this designer here:
http://tdwp.us/category/themes/
I’m not seeing tdEditor on their site currently, but you may be able to contact them about getting access to it.
Your widgets also won’t transfer. Many of the widgets we have here on WordPress.com are not default on WordPress. You can get many of them by installing our plugin Jetpack:
This guide will step you through the process of moving your WordPress.com site to a self hosted WordPress:

We only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, so all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:
If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if its right for you:

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with! :)

Thanks Shawna! I like all the perks and stability of having my site hosted here at WordPress.com, but I also want the functionality of wordpress.org plugins. I’m sure you deal with this all the time. Okay… so you’re saying as soon as I update the DNS and migrate this site, the theme I paid for and all the content in my widgets will pretty much disappear and I’ll have to reformat the site? UNLESS I go get the theme CSS from TD and install Jetpack to the server. ?? Sorry. #imnew
My other alternative is to keep the site hosted here and just point my domain to the wordpress.com servers, correct?
I’ve almost got what I want on the current site I have set up on wordpress.com. I am just in need of a calendar of events that I can update, and a video gallery plugin, which I haven’t found in wordpress.com’s list of widgets. If you could advise on these, it may help make the decision to migrate or stay on the worpress servers.
Thank you very much for your help.

This is basically it, yeah. You’ll need to set up your theme yourself, the theme creator usually has some documentation to help you out with this. And the WordPress.org support forums are pretty active as well.

Yep! You’d just need to update your name servers.

Hmm. We do have a Google Calendar integration:
And we have the Upcoming Events widget, which just needs a calendar URL to sync with:
The only type of ‘reservation’ system we have is through OpenTable for restaurants. I’m not sure if this was the type of “updating” you meant though.

As for a video gallery, we have a couple of themes that have video sliders, like Sundance. And Swell offers a background video.
We also integrate with YouTube and Vimeo, and YouTube has it’s playlist capability, which we support.

Do any of those options fit the bill?
