Migrating my Squarespace site to WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I have a site that I want to migrate from Squarespace to WP. I exported from SS and imported to WP. The site looks nothing at all like my site and was wondering if I did something wrong. I am totally new to WP so I really know very little.
    Thanks! – Laura

  • Hi Laura,

You exported the content from your Squarespace and imported it to WordPress.com.
Now you need to find a theme that will look like the site you have on Squarespace.
It will not look exactly the same as SS and WordPress.com don’t use the same themes but WordPress.com has many themes available and most of them can be customized to get the look you want.

You can check the available themes by going to My Sites> Customize — Click on Themes ( https://wordpress.com/themes )

You can try them out and find the one that suits you best.

Checkout this page for some basic instructions on using themes:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/video-tutorials/customize-your-site/

Here is also a link to instructions for transfering from Squarespace to WordPress.com, just in case you need it:

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you! I am currently looking for a similar theme and I know this has a lot to do with making it look similar to the existing site, but when I imported the info, it seemed to only take the info from the blog page. I am not noticing any of the other pages I set up. Is that something that will appear when I apply a template as well?

  • I can see that you have some blog posts on your WordPress.com site but I can’t see any other content.
When you check the Site Pages in your admin (My Sites > Site pages) do you see any pages from your SS site there?
If yes, then all you have to do is to add the links to those pages in your menu.
You can do that in Customizer (My Sites > Customize > Menus > Primary ) and click on Add Items.
See here for more details: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

If you can’t find your old content anywhere in your admin area, then the problem could be with failed import. If you still have the export file from your Squarespace site, you can try to reimport the file (any existing content will not be duplicated).

If you still have problems with transferring your content from your old site, just write back to this post and add modlook tag in the sidebar so the WordPress.com staff can take a look.

    Hope this helps!
