Migrating or connecting WordPress.org sites to wordpress.com??

  • Unknown's avatar

My IT guy is in the hospital and I am not happy spending a lot of time on technical issues. I was trying to update my ecommerce site and noticed that Woocommerce now requires a wordpress.com connection. Do I have to move my whole site to wordpress.com? If so, is that possible? I paid a lot to web designers for my sites and I’m not a happy camper right now . . . please say it’s not so!!!

    hi,

Can you tell us your site url ?

Here is the support document on how to make the best use of this forum:

“Do I have to move my whole site to wordpress.com?”
    No, you don’t.

To clear up any confusion, there are 2 versions of WordPress. WordPress.com is a managed environment different from using the open source WordPress installation. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two, different entities.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    hi,
thanks for your response. My url is http://www.southboundpress.com, and I understand the difference between the two versions of WordPress. Problem is, my commerce site is set up with Woocommerce, which now requires users to be hosted on WordPress.com. My site is hosted on BlueHost. I’m not sure how to approach this requirement — rethink Woocommerce and look for a shopping option that likes WordPress.org or move my commerce site to wordpress.com.

I hope that’s more focused and clear! Thanks again.

    hi,

This is what I got from the WooCommerce support documentation:

    Choose Hosting
You need to be running WordPress on a self-hosted site.

We have partnered with a few hosting companies that offer pre-installs of WordPress, WooCommerce, our Storefront theme and ecommerce-specific features, such as a dedicated IP and SSL certificate to keep your store protected and secure.

    Single sites: Bluehost and SiteGround
