Migrating Self Hosted Site to WordPress.com Site
-
Hey there!
My company is looking to migrate our self-hosted site to a managed solution, ideally the WordPress.com business account. We have a few questions before we can pull the trigger, though:
– what are the traffic limitations with WordPress.com business accounts? Our primary domain sees ~150k sessions/month.
– our current workflow sets us up with a staging site (live.kipsu.com) where we test changes to our site before pushing the changes to our main domain (kipsu.com), through a CDN -
Hi –
Thanks for getting in touch. The business plan should work great. Can you send me a link to the current site so I can take a look?
The new site can be set up first. Then, once it is ready, you’ll connect the domain. That domain transfer or domain mapping (up to you) is included in that business plan as well as your 24/7 support team access and your hosting.
– transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
– mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/The business plan, and our other plans are available for side-by-side comparison at https://wordpress.com/pricing/
You can set up a test site that is hidden from the internet. The traffic level is not a problem.

I think the question from the original poster is asking how can a staging environment be created in WordPress once you’ve gone live.
The OP sounds like they’ve got a similar setup to us and we’ve just moved to WordPress.com.
There are limitations compared to hosting it yourself. My understanding regarding a staging environment is that you’ll host another WordPress site yourself on another server using wordpress.org/self hosted.
The question would be for the OP, what process would they use to push changes from the staging site to WordPress.com
