Migrating site…

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello there !! Hope all is well. I am trying to migrate my site from GoDaddy to WP and their hosting program to Blue Host. I am a little confused because the domain I paid for, marionbrightwrites.com, does not seem to be the same as my WP URL. Is this part of the process or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks, I can’t wait to get started,

    Marion

  • Hello Marion,

Happy to help you with this.

Hope all is well. I am trying to migrate my site from GoDaddy to WP and their hosting program to Blue Host.

I think there’s some confusion happening here, so l think the following context may be useful. It looks like the domain is registered with GoDaddy, and is connected to WordPress.com via custom DNS settings.

Have you built a site with Bluehost? And if yes, are you looking to move this over to WordPress.com?

To explain, there’s two types of WordPress. The first is WordPress.com, where we provide daily backups, automatic updates, a 24/7 support service and an optimised version of WordPress. The second is self-hosted WordPress, where the free open source version of the software is installed onto a server (Bluehost).

More on the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

It’s possible to migrate the site over to WordPress using our migration plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpcom-migration/ and the site would need to be on the business plan.

    I hope this helps.
