Migrating subscribers to new installation

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently had a fatal error on my original install and for various reasons decided to just reinstall wp in a secure subdirectory. That is done, but I can’t seem to migrate my subscribers, or successfully merge the two accounts on my jetpack admin account, which would be best.

  • Hi @karenrysavy, can confirm which sites you need followers moved from, and to? vWe may also be able to merge stats for you. You could then remove the link to the old site.

thanks, but in the interim, and with my usual idiotic impatience.. I seem to have broken it but GOOD. I tried to follow documentation on moving an installation and somehow created a fatal loop, so I reinstalled at the root. Now, I am unable to get jetpack to stop redirecting my new install to the old directory, which has been deleted (renamed). I am pretty sure I wiped out the old subscribers by my actions, but at this point, I don’t care about that anymore. I just need my install to connect to https://re-dew.com and stop changing the Site url to re-dew.com/wp. Unless you can take me back in time 24 hours…. that would be really great :P

When I remove the data in the ‘Enter the address here if you want your site home page to be different from your WordPress installation directory’. field, it changes it back to /wp and keeps telling me

The Site address you entered did not appear to be a valid URL. Please enter a valid URL.

When I visit permalink settings, it tells me

If your .htaccess file was writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file. Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all.

When I entered the settings shown, it resulted in a 500 server error. I changed the permissions on the htaccess, but it still tells me the same thing……

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for reaching back out with that information.

It looks like https://re-dew.com/ is a self hosted site withinmotionhosting.com.

You would ideally need to see if they have a backup of that site before we’re able to assist with migrating followers from one site to another.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks for that. I do have a back up of both files and db, from way before all of this mess. Hopefully I can restore that installation without this identity/safe mode loop/problem.
