Migrating to email subscriptions

    Our retirement community’s genealogy club is migrating to WordPress from RootsWeb. One loose end is a RootsWeb mailing list with about 150 addresses on it. RootsWeb dates from the Good Old Days when there was a list admin, and the admin could just add an email address to the list and notify someone they were on it.

    We’d like to replace the mailing list with email subscriptions to our WordPress site’s feed page. The easiest way to do this is to put the email subscription widget on the site’s sidebar, and tell everyone to sign up. The difficulty is that partly because it’s a retirement community, members’ computer skills are limited, and they may have trouble doing the request subscription at website, receive email from website, confirm requested subscription steps on their own. I estimate 1/3 to 1/2 might have a problem.

    I could also meet with them and help them do it individually, but that’s slow and time-consuming.

    I guess I’d like a one-time dispensation to add people without their confirmation. I realize this can’t be allowed in general, or it would be an invitation to spammers. Are there any exceptions? Or any WordPress tips or tricks I don’t know about, that might help?

    Thanks!

    Please post the URL for the blog to which you are referring starting with http://

    @timethief,

    That would be:
    http://azscvgs.wordpress.com
    which redirects to:
    http://scvgs.org

    The latter is of course the domain name we purchased thru WordPress.com. I don’t really expect a solution to my problem, since it’s not exactly a WordPress problem, but I figured it never hurts to ask.

    I’m not aware of any exceptions or workarounds that can be used. Perhaps you ought to take your request to Staff http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
