Migrating to my hosted environment
-
I have this blog that I am running on WordPress.com and I am thinking of moving this to my own installation to get more control, install plugins, etc.
Questions are:
– What is the best hosting provider for wordpress blogs?
– Are there any provider that will IMPORT my blog to their environment or do I have to do everything from scratch.Thanks, Luis

What is the best hosting provider for wordpress blogs?
There isn’t a single hosting provider that is “the best”. There are hundreds of thousands of web hosts out there, the vast majority of which meet the WordPress minimum requirements:
* PHP 4.3 or greater
* MySQL 4.1.2 or greater
* The mod_rewrite Apache moduleThere are recommended web hosts here > http://wordpress.org/hosting/

If the web host you hire provides a wordpress.ORG install then you don’t have to install one. If they don’t provide one you must get one from http://wordpress.org and install it yourself. Then you must uploading a theme and plugins.

Moving the content of the blog from wordpress.COM to the wordpress.ORG install is your own responsibility. Here are instructions for moving content http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#toc
Here are instructions for moving links > http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/import-export-links/
You will have to copy and paste all contents from text widgets in the wordpress.COM blog to text widgets in the wordpress.ORG install.
Note that the wordpress.ORG install you get will have widgets with it. The ones that are specially made for worpress.COM will not be included.
