Migrating to WordPress.org

I’m on the verge of moving over to a self hosted site on WordPress and I have a few queries.

Firstly I want to thank everyone who has helped me in the past (timethief, sacred path, raincoaster and a few others). Your help has been invaluable and very much appreciated.

Right, I have my own domain name (http://thedigitalpost.co.uk) which I will transfer over so there isn’t an issue in terms of re-directing visitors. I am going to contact subscribers to advise of my move and so they can subscribe via feedburner. My content has been transferred and is waiting to go live! Is there anything else I need to consider?

Also, what happens to my site as it was registered with a WordPress domain but I bought my own domain which I used before launching the site. Im assuming the content will remain there after I change the domain settings so I probably need to delete the site completely to avoid duplicate content. Is this correct?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I would suggest leaving it up and making a post that gives the address of your new blog. That way people who have bookmarked your WordPress.com site will be able to find your new one.

DON’T take down the base blog you were mapped to – that takes away many options such as leave a note about where you have went to or domain forwarding if your old base blog was bookmarked. And maybe you will decide you want to use the old blg name for something in the future and once a name is deleted it is gone forever even from you.
