Migrating to wordpress.org – trying to change Name Servers to direct to Bluehost

    Hi there

I am currently trying to migrate my website from wordpress.com to a self hosted site at wordpress.org.

I am going through the hosting site, blue host. In one of the steps, I had to change the name servers to direct it to blue host. I got the custom name servers from blue host and live chatted with them to ensure that I had done it correctly in wordpress.com. I am 150% sure I did this correctly and saved it as I watched a billion youtube videos to make sure.

In my wordpress.com dashboard, I have changed the name servers to the custom name server provided by blue host. I have double and triple checked each time I do this to ensure it has saved, but then I log in a few days later and it looks like the name servers have reverted back to the wordpress.com name servers.

This has happened twice now and each time, as I am to wait up to 7 days for the domain to transfer, it is a very frustrating process!

Is anyone able to offer me assistance?

    My website is lovennourish.com

    Many thanks in advance
    Jen

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I can help you with that. What are the nameservers that you are wanting to set for lovennourish.com?

    Hey there!
    ns1.bluehost.com 74.220.195.31
    ns2.bluehost.com 69.89.16.4

Thank you so much! Many thanks in advance!

  • Do they want you to use nameservers or IP addresses? It isn’t possible to use both at one time. If you use IP addresses, you need to retain WordPress nameservers.

Typically, I see people with bluehost using nameservers. But since you listed both, I thought I would check.

    Hi Josh
Um….I Think name servers. I didn’t realise that I had listed both..I thought those were the 2 things I needed to put in…
    Does that help?

  • Okay, I’ve changed the nameservers. Let me know if the change appears to have stuck properly.

but now I can’t log in? I thought it was the same password as logging into wordpress.com? and it doesn’t recognise my username or email to get a new password?
    Sorry :(

  • A self-hosted WordPress site wouldn’t have the same login info as WordPress.com unless you specifically set it up to be that way.

WordPress.org has complete documentation and support sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at http://codex.wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.org/support/

    Hi there

I am having a very similar problem. My domain was purchased through WordPress. I wanted to purchase a new theme and begin using WordPress through Bluehost, so I could use a custom theme.

I need to point Name Servers to BlueHost, where I registered an account, so I can use a custom theme. I don’t want to transfer my domain.

I keep naming the BlueHost servers under “Use the custom name servers listed below,” and it tells me that the edit has been successful, but it then immediately reverts to the WordPress servers. I first made the change about a week ago, so have waited in excess of the 72 hours maximum. As a consequence of this (I’ve been told) I can’t login to my new self hosted site with the new login details given to me by bluehost. Why is this happening and how can I fix this?

    I am using nameservers

    ns1.bluehost.com
    ns2.bluehost.com

which I copied and pasted directly from the email bluehost sent me when I registered my account.

    My blog is variousmouths.com

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.

    Best wishes

    Zelda

  • I am seeing http://www.lovennourish.com/ point correctly to your Bluehost site.

It can take 24-48 hours for domain/DNS changes to propagate throughout the internet. It typically happens faster than that, but it really depends on your ISPs update frequency. If you are still not seeing the correct site appear after 48 hours has elapsed, please contact me again.

Also, do let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.
