Migrating very old wordpress blog

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I recently reactivated a very old wordpress blog of mine. when I activated the custom design feature, it appears that my old CSS gets stuck in it. Is there any chance I can get rid of the old CSS and have only the new one from the theme chosen activated ? I have tried deleting it but it keeps coming over again. Any help welcome on how to restart it fresh.
    Many thanks in advance

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I checked out your blog, and I do see there is CSS in the Custom CSS section of Customizer. Is this what keeps coming back after you delete it?

Yes indeed, thats the one I came up with years ago, and I can’t delete it now that I migrated it to new version…thx a lot

I could kind of design my blog anyways, but some things from the theme do not work because of it, for example widgets do not display properly as well as fb icons or other items from the visual theme I chose to use.

    Hi there,

I’m getting the same result. You may want to try checking the “Start Fresh: Don’t use the theme’s original CSS.” tick box on the custom CSS page, and see if that produces the result you’re looking for.

I’m going to have our team investigate why the CSS will not delete, and if there’s a bug affecting your blog.

Thanks a lot Erina for your efforts, much appreciated. I did try not using the original CSS theme as well, issue is that then it destroys the theme I had chosen (called visual). The only solution I kind of found so far was to create a brand new blog, but I wanted to keep my blog name and address, and that does not seem possible right ? if the team finds a way to delete that old CSS that would be preferred if any chance. Thanks a lot again, Sandrine

I tried viewing the CSS Revisions (linked a the top right in the CSS panel), and that seems to have worked to update the CSS: I can no longer see the old CSS for the amesyeux.wordpress.com blog when I go to Appearance > Customize > CSS. Can you check to make sure it looks good to you now? Could you try saving some CSS (anything) to make sure that saving new changes works for you too?

While reviewing your account, I also noticed you purchased a 2nd Custom Design upgrade for your amesyeux2.wordpress.com blog. If you would like a refund for that upgrade, you can get one by going to Store > My Upgrades in that blog’s dashboard and clicking the “Cancel and Refund” link.
