migrating website
-
We, a not-for-profit organisation, have a wordpress website, set up by a member using her own account. As it’s a great imposition on her, we’d like to move the whole thing, as it is set up now, complete with domain name, to our own account, so that we can administer it without bothering her. Any idea how this could be done?

Hello!
Please reply with the website address, so we can offer more specific guidance. The process is different, depending on whether the site is already hosted with WordPress.com or with another web host.
This forum supports sites hosted with WordPress.com, so the more detailed information provided here will be specific to moving your site to WordPress.com.
If that is not your goal, you would want to ask for advice in the WordPress.org support forums.

The website address is http://crime.cymru/ It is a WordPress site owned by one of our members and we want to transfer it to a new wordpress site owned by our organisation.

Hello again!
Your site is using the Open Source version of WordPress that supports hosting on other services besides WordPress.com. In the WordPress.com lexicon, we refer to this kind of site as a self-hosted site.
This link provides step-by-step instructions for moving a self-hosted site to WordPress.com:
https://wordpress.com/support/coming-from-self-hosted/In this process, tou will need to choose a WordPress.com hosting plan. Here is a link that compares features and pricing for all WordPress.com plans:
https://wordpress.com/pricing/Many self-hosted sites use plugins. This is also supported on the WordPress.com Business plan and eCommerce Plan, but not on all plans.
If your site uses plugins, and you want to be able to transition to WordPress.com without making adjustments for plugin changes, the Business plan might offer the least disruptive transition.
