Migrating website from godaddy to wordpress

    Hi, I have a current website with godaddy and I would like to know if I start with wordpress, when I transfer my domain from godaddy to wordpress, does it go offline with godaddy straight away or just when I deactivate with godaddy and publish it with wordpress?

    Hi! There are two factors at play when transferring a domain.

    One is the actual domain registration and another one is the files that make a website and where they are hosted.

    Right now, it seems like both your domain and files are registered and hosted through GoDaddy. If you check your billing history, you would be able to see that you are most likely paying for both of those things separately.

    So even after your domain is transferred, those files that make your website will still be there, however, they will not be accessible from your domain. If you wanted to access your GoDaddy website, you would need to associate it with a different domain. If that is the case, I would recommend you contact GoDaddy support so they can associate your hosting to a different domain from the one you are transferring.

    So, to answer your question. Once you decide to transfer the domain over to WordPress.com there is a 5-7 day transfer window in which the process is being finalized, after that the domain will only display the new WordPress website, however, your old website files will still be hosted on GoDaddy until you cancel your hosting plan.
