migrating wordpress.com to wordpress.org error missing/invalid WXR

  I am migrating my wordpress.com blog to wordpress.org.

  Everything works fine, until I import my old content into my wordpress.org site.

  This is the message I get:
  This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number

  Any suggestions? I would love to avoid the costs of a guided transfer.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there. Did you remember to first extract the zip file you got when you exported your content? You need to import the XML file itself, not the zip folder.

  If that’s not the problem, try creating a new export file, in case the original export was corrupted somehow.
