Migration back to wordpress.com domain from own domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’m currently on my own domain, but am thinking about returning to my wordpress.com domain. Both sites are hosted through WordPress. Is there a way to transfer everything back again? I know I can do an import of all the new posts, but my original wordpress.com site is currently saying only 11 followers as the rest transferred to my new domain.

I’m still considering it, just curious whether this is possible.

    Thanks!

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    Hi there!

You certainly can return to WordPress.com! In fact, we have a guide here that can help:

    https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/

With one of our paid plans, you could also continue using your aramblingreviewer.com domain here at WordPress.com.

Additionally since your subscribers were transferred to your current site through the Jetpack plugin, we’ll be able to transfer those subscribers back for you.

I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any questions or need help with anything else.

    Thank you!

What would be needed for the process of transferring subscribers back? I’m still looking into it/figuring out timing etc, just want to make sure I know what needs to be done at the time.

  • We can take of that for you after the move, just please let us know the URLs of the sites you’re moving from/to when you’re ready.

    Hi,

I’m ready to make the move. Shall I provide the urls through here?

Also, I’m having trouble transferring the content. I’ve followed the above steps, but I’m having multiple posts duplicating where it’s not updating changes on the old post but adding it as a new one. Is there someone who can help me with this?

Yes, feel free to post the two URLs in this thread and we’ll take care of the transfer!

Sure, we could take a look. Did you try to migrate your content over to WordPress more than once? Once we know the URL, we’ll be happy to take a look.

    Thanks!

Thanks! I’d look to move back from:
    https://aramblingreviewer.com/ to https://aramblingreviewer.wordpress.com/

I hadn’t imported twice but any post that I’ve done an update on on my own domain seems to have posted that as a new post and left the old version as a separate post? And my menu etc is now appearing twice?

I have migrated your subscribers from:
    https://aramblingreviewer.com/ to https://aramblingreviewer.wordpress.com/ successfully!

I hadn’t imported twice but any post that I’ve done an update on on my own domain seems to have posted that as a new post and left the old version as a separate post?

Can you provide URLs of posts that you have done an update on? To clarify, you made an update on one of your posts under https://aramblingreviewer.wordpress.com/ and it created a new post rather than updating the old post? I am not seeing this on my end.

And my menu etc is now appearing twice?

You can go and manually delete the duplicate menu items.
