Migration from self hosted to wordpress subdomain

    Hello,

    My current website is a self hosted wordpress site (though tsohost) with the domain naturekimberley.com but I want to transfer it back to being hosted by wordpress and using the free wordpress hosting and subdomain naturekimberley.wordpress.com

    I spoke to the tsohost and they said they need a DNS but I cannot find a DNS for the new wordpress subdomain? I also tried migrating it myself but it seems I can only do this on the “pro” plan which I do not want at the moment.

    Any help would be much appreciated!

    You can import the content of your custom domain site to https://naturekimberley.wordpress.com/ and let your custom domain expire but if you wish to transfer your custom domain to your WordPress.com site you will need to upgrade from free to a paid plan. Things are only free if you keep the subdomain address ending in .wordpress.com. Note there is a cheaper Starter plan which would work if you don’t want all the Pro plan features.

    Hi there,

    If you want to migrate your entire site, including plugins and your current theme, that can only be done on our Pro plan:

    Otherwise, you can migrate your content only (i.e. posts, pages, comments, media files), using the export/import tools built into WordPress:

    I’m not sure why Tsohost wants DNS for the WordPress.com site, though – DNS is only useful if you also want to point your current domain to the WordPress.com site, and won’t do anything at all in terms of migrating your content to us. So perhaps you might want to contact their support team again and make sure you’re on the same page regarding what exactly you want to do here :)

    If you do still want to use your current domain with your WordPress.com site, that will require a paid plan on our end, as @themagicrobot mentioned. Then you can either transfer your domain to us, or leave it registered at Tsohost and simply connect it here, but either way that’s something completely separate from migrating your site’s content to us.
