migration of free site to shared host
-
I was trying to move my free wordpress.com site to dreamHost. The free version does not allow plugins making this harder. I tried the export all feature, but it appears to only transfer 20 of my posts out of 200 and the formatting is all lost. I was then going to try to manually download the database and file, but free wordpress.com does not appear to allow me to get to the files. Please advise.

Hi @grategazoo1 ,
Transferring your site can be a little difficult, but it can be done! Just to confirm, have you read through the Export Guide? It should walk you through the steps of moving your site and point out different things to look out for along the way.
When do you notice your blog has only exported 20 posts and that all formatting has been lost? Your current site seems to be using the Apostrophe 2 theme. Automattic offers for this theme to be used on self-hosted sites, too. Have you installed that to your new site yet? If not, then that could be affecting how your site looks.
Give the above Export Guide a read and let us know how you go. If you could let us know exactly which step in the guide you get stuck at, we will be able to better assist you. All the best :)
