Migration Vistaprint to WordPress.com
-
I want to migrate my website vistaprint to WordPress.com and buy a €25 plan at the same time.
The problem is that Vistaprint technicians tell me that they can’t do the dns settings and can only give me the migration authorization code.
So I don’t know if I only keep the domain name I lose the seniority of my site or I can do 301 redirects on WordPress. Com when my site will be migrated.
I don’t know if I was clear enough.
Thanks for your help.

Hi –
It will be helpful to know the domain in question. Please share that with us. You can transfer a domain to WordPress.com instead of mapping through DNS records. Here is how you do it:

Hi
Thanks for tour answer
There is my actual website
https:// planetephone.fr
I don’t want to lose the seniority of my website. Is there this topic in French?
Thank you
-
Yes sure, you can read the docs in French, here:
https://wordpress.com/fr/support/transferer-votre-domaine/transfert-de-domaine-vers-wordpress-com/
You can also post to the French forums, if you prefer:
https://wordpress.com/fr/forums/
Unfortunately, we do not accept transfers for
.frdomains at the moment so you will want to keep it with your current registrar and map it to your account as explained here:https://wordpress.com/fr/support/domaines/association-domaine-existant/

OK, i will do the association, but i want understand about my first question, if i can’t do the setting dns from my old serveur to wordpress.com, will i loose my pages and referencing or not ?
thank you -
I’m not sure I understand.
The domain is just an address, it does not contain your site. If you point your domain to the WordPress.com site, this is what will show if someone visits planetephone.fr. Your old site will not disappear, you will still be able to access it from the backend, but others will not reach it without a public address.
When your registrar mentioned they can’t change the DNS settings, did they meant that you won’t be able to change the nameservers? Would they be able to add an A record instead? If so, let us know, we’ll give you the IP addresses they will need.
If they don’t allow modifying the DNS records at all, there’s nothing we can do to help. You could consider registering a new domain, likeplanetephone.comor something similar.Does that make sense?

I specify that I am the owner of the domain name Planetephone.fr and that my current host has provided me with the authorization code so that I can transfer it.
-
@errouge1980, as mentioned earlier, we are not able to accept a transfer for a
.frdomain, we do not support this extension (TLD):The only way in which you can use that domain with your WordPress.com site is by mapping it. For that, you will either need to change the nameservers on your registrar’s side or add an A record to point it to our IP addresses. There is no other way to do that, I’m afraid.

Okay, I understand.
but if I transfer only the domain name and I create on wordpress the same content and the same name of the pages which old site without changing the dns settings, what exactly happens? -
It is not possible to transfer that domain name to WordPress.com.
If you had a different domain, eligible for a transfer, all the links would work, provided you were using the same permalinks on your previous site.
If you meant mapping the domain without changing the DNS records, nothing would happen, your domain would still display your original site.

If I transfer my domain name to 1&1 and then I transfer it to WordPress.com do you think that might be a solution to the problem?
-
It is not possible to transfer that domain name to WordPress.com.
If 1&1 accept .fr domains then yes you could transfer it there, keep it there and then MAP it (not transfer it) to a WordPress.com site.
