Minimal ? Does anyone actually know what "Minimal" means?
-
I’ve searched all over and made dozens of inquiries about “minimal” themes, and nobody seems to understand the term “minimal” … and they recommend flashy, bloated WordPress themes with all kinds of image rich floating, zooming, scrolling and gyrating themes.
Does anyone here know of a “minimal” theme with typography, black and white, no moving parts, no graphics or images?
See: this which is no longer available but is a very good example of “minimal” :

thanks

The only themes that can be used on WordPress.COM hosted sites that do not have a Business plan upgrade http://wordpress.com/pricing are found here https://wordpress.com/themes/
I am sorry but unless or until you provide the exact URL of the site you refer to starting with http:// we cannot provide any accurate answers to your questions.
To save you time you can type the actual URL of the site you are referring to into http://whoishostingthis.com to determine who hosts the site(s) so you know where to post for support.
This is WordPress.COM support and that site may not be on our servers. To be clear here at WordPress.COM support we do not provide support for local installs of WordPress.ORG software, or for WordPress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, linked to WordPress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites WordPress.COM account page.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
The wordpress.ORG support forum is at http://wordpress.org/support. The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
See also https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ for app support.Additional information:
Unless you have a wordpress.COM hosted site with a Business plan https://wordpress.com/pricing/ you cannot install any plugins in addition to those that are built in to all of our sites, and you cannot install third party or custom themes. There is no FTP access to WordPress.COM hosted sites.
Please read:

https://en.support.wordpress.com/seo-tools/Also note that if you upgrade to a Business plan and install plugins, and then downgrade to a lower plan, the plugins and all features unique to the Business plan will no longer be available for your use.
All sites with upgraded plans include access to live chat support. https://en.support.wordpress.com/live-chat/ https://wordpress.com/help/contact At times when all operators are busy or unavailable, you’ll be able to get through to private email support.

Minimal is a term that refers to style/features. If you are in fact referring to a WordPress.COM hosted site and not to a WordPress ORG software install see here https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/minimal

sorry, I wasn’t clear. I’m looking for a good, minimal theme. I must have wandered into a forum about business plans or something or plug-ins or something.
The “minimal” themes cited in the above post are NOT minimal. (except maybe the one called “Penscratch” … who ever labeled them “minimal” does not know what the term means.
Thanks for your help.

It’s hard to give you accurate information regarding themes since we don’t know the URL of the site you need help with.

I’m brand new and was looking for a simple text-based theme too. I use Ryu

@safenetting If you are talking about a WordPress.com site (with WordPress.org there are numerous minimal themes ….such as one called “Minimal”!) I find Tonal to be about as basic/minimalist a theme as you can get here. https://wordpress.com/theme/tonal

Thanks everyone.
I think I’ve wandered into the wrong forum. I linked here from ThemeForest looking for a theme to purchase. Your suggestions helped me, but I cannot see where to buy and download the theme … and looks like they’re exclusively for WordPress.com.
Sorry.

@safenetting No need to apologize, but the key to helping you get relevant information is knowing the URL of the site you need help with. Since that piece of the puzzle was missing, we all tried to help you with more general or specific information.
Again, if you need help finding a theme for a site using the standalone WP software, then the place to head to is at https://wordpress.org/themes/search/minimal/
If your site is hosted here on WordPressdotcom, then our Theme Showcase can be found here: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/minimal
To clarify, WordPress comes in 2 flavors: the fully hosted WordPressdotcom (where we are ) and the open source WP (org) project. This support guide explains some of the differences between them: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Cheers!
