Missed Schedule?
-
Hi, for the past couple of days I have been experiencing serious issues with my site. It’s hosted on wordpress.com and has worked almost flawlessly for 2,300+ posts so far.
Here’s what happens:
1) Post scheduler fails to work consistently (Prio A)
I schedule a post, and when the publishing time comes, the post does not show up, or a just a “preview” shows up with the main image and a yellow label “scheduled” placed in the upper left corner of that image. Clicking on the post the leads to an “Oooops!” page (error – page cannot be found). I can fix this by manually setting the post status to “published” but this is highly annoying. What’s more, sometimes when this happens, the entire blog on the front page disappears. This really is a serious issue for me because I don’t want to check every single time whether a post went through or not. And no, I have not changed the use of the schedule post feature at all. It has worked flawlessly in the past.2) Uploading media fails frequently (Prio A)
When I use the drag & drop feature to upload media to my site, say, 6 to 12 smaller images, then about 60% of them get through as expected, and 40% create an error and won’t upload. When I click “dismiss errors” and try to re-upload the ones that failed, again about 40% fail. This is super annoying. (I am on a gigabit line, and ALL other sites I am using work OK. It is ONLY wordpress.com that has these hickups.)3) Post dashboard does not update right away (Prio C)
Up until recently, when I scheduled a post – i.e. when I changed the status from ‘draft’ to ‘scheduled’ – the post would appear right away (like, instantly) in the list of scheduled posts. Now it seems to take a minute or so until it shows up. It’s just an annoyance, but not a serious issue.4) Waiting for pixel.wp.com slows down use of interface (Prio B)
Over the past couple of weeks I have been experiencing very slow performance of the dashboard in general. The browser displayed “waiting for pixel.wp.com” in the lower left corner of the window. I have no idea what this is, but the window seemed to be stuck for several seconds, sometimes up to 20 seconds or so. I fixed this by adding pixel.wp.com to my blocking list. This has eliminated the message, and increased speed somewhat. But I am still not satisfied with the speed of the site, e.g. when opening the media panel, it still hangs (showing a tiny turning wheel) until after a while the media appear.I do not believe any of this to be a problem on my end (other than seat-to-keyboard interface, hehe) but rather some issue with wordpress.com hosting.
I’d appreciate any help or tips on how to solve these issues.
Many thanks in advance,
Mark

The post scheduler failed again today.
I will put up a note for the visitors of my site that explains the issue.
