Missed Schedule
-
I’ve seen a few questions about scheduled posts not showing up on time. My latest post is one I wanted to schedule, and happened to be here right after the scheduled time. I accessed my blog from another machine and the post was not there. It had been reported that that scheduled posts don’t really come out until someone accesses the blog. Well I did that from the other machine, and it wasn’t there. OK, so now I’m thinking maybe they meant it will trigger the publishing in the background but that can’t deliver it when first asked for. So I wanted a minute and fetched again with a cache flush. Same thing.
I went to Posts >> All Posts in my admin panel, and it shows up in the list with a red message on the far right saying “Missed Schedule”. So something knows something was missed.. So why not go ahead and publish it now?
It was scheduled for 21:00. At 21:18 is when I first checked. Then again at 21:19. Now again at 21:28. Something is just not happening. Unless there is 10+minutes of server update backlog, shouldn’t it be out by now?
I have not click on the Publish button, yet. I plan to hold off a while to see if I (or we) can figure out what’s happening with the scheduled publishing. Oh, BTW, there is no Publish button. Just an update button. But I presume if I edit the scheduled time and make it unscheduled, it could go back to a Publish button. But I’ll leave it like this in case someone on staff wants to look at such a case happening.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No, it should trigger it as soon as someone goes to your blog. “Missed Schedule” is not a warning that ever used to exist, but the fact that it does means staff actively expect some blogs to miss it. I’d like to know why.
Yes, since you already Published, you don’t get another Publish button.

I just fetched it again from the other machine, and the new post shows now (22:05 … original schedule 21:00). The “Posts >> All Posts” panel page now says “1 hour ago – Published”.
No matter in this case because I wanted this post held back so the previous one would get some “top of the page” exposure first. But it is a curiosity what happened. Hopefully someone on staff was reading here and looked into it.
First time I ever saw something like this the first time I ever did a schedule, it wasn’t until 3 minutes later it showed up. And since I did pick top of the hour timing, I just assumed it was a spike in server updates because maybe I’m not the only one doing that :-)
