Missing A Few 'F's
-
A curious problem has suddenly developed on my WordPress site. When I look through my posts on the site itself, I’ve noticed that there are a handful of words that should begin with the letter ‘f’ which are, all of a sudden, missing that all-important first letter. When I go to edit the posts to try and correct the problem, all the ‘f’s are accounted for and exactly where they should be. I’ve tried looking at it on two different devices (Android phone, using the WordPress app and a Windows 10 PC using Chrome) and I get the same problem.
I’ve had my WordPress site for a couple of months now and I’ve never had this problem before now. I’m using the Ecto theme, which is the same one I’ve been using without difficulty for most of the time I’ve had the site.
Any ideas how I can fix this?

I am experiencing exactly the same problem. The letter f is in the draft copy of my post, I have tried editing and re-writing , but the letters are still missing in the updated posts. Just the words “financial” “benefit” and “deficit” on here – https://kittysjones.wordpress.com/2016/01/23/government-housing-benefit-cuts-will-have-catastrophic-impact-on-the-most-vulnerable-social-groups/

I’ve changed the theme to Saga and that resolved the problem. However, I would like the Syntax theme if possible, so wondered if there is any way of fixing that theme?
-
The F is removed in words where the next letter is an I – “financial”, “benefit” “deficit” for example.
-
For the most part, that all seems to be the exact same problem I’m having, however I am also missing the f in the word “influential” in one post. Obviously the f in in that is followed by a l, not an I.
Either way, it’s annoying. I need my f-words and I don’t want to have to change theme, especially now that I know it’s happening on other themes too.
-
I really hope it can be sorted out, I want my Syntax theme back! For now, it may be worth finding a similar one that works until the problem is recitified
-
Wow, yep, I’m having the same problem with both new and old posts. The ‘f’ is missing when paired as ‘fi’. The only way I’ve resolved the problem is to replace the word with a different word altogether. I’m using the Ecto theme for kelly.teitzel.com and haven’t noticed this problem prior to yesterday.
-
No, it was only a problem for me from yesterday. So know we know it’s the Ecto and Syntax themes so far affected. I write pieces about human rights and welfare, I doubt I can get by without using the words “benefits” or “financial”! Hope it’s resolved soon

Avoiding those words on your blog wouldn’t be easy! Looks like there are a few other threads about the mysterious missing ‘f’ and it’s possibly a Merriweather font problem. It’s been flagged for staff to look into, so hopefully it’ll be sorted out soon :)

I just changed the font on the ecto theme to Libre Baskerville, following your suggestion kellyteitzel. It seems to have worked without me having to find a brand new theme :) Thanks :D

My f’s have gone missing when writing comments. But they appear when the comment has been published. A WP friend who uses an entirely different theme has the same issue too. Why the f….?!

I’ve been having the same issue for the record. Really weird stuff. Happens only with “fi” and “fl” as far as I can tell (when you put in the second letter, the f will disappear). I think it just started last night, and affects only the comments section of my blog (both people leaving comments and my responses to them).

No worries. :)
It’s been a real pain using a new theme. Some of my articles had some of the paragraphs translated into what looked like tiny superscript, no idea why, so having to put that right where I find it. There’s some paragraph spacing issues too in places
-
I am also having the same issue with Ecto theme. It seems to be “fi” combinations. Just started today as far as I can tell. Waiting patiently for a response the the Staff. Thanks.
-
We’re having the same problem. Would love to know if there is a fix without changing theme.
-
Same problem here, although it is the “fl” combination that’s consistently messed up, and a few occasional single “f”s that are missing. I’m using the Quentin theme.
In some cases, the “f” is missing in a comment on my notifications timeline, but is present in the comment on my blog.
Where the “f” is missing in drafts, it’s impossible to add it. When you write about flowers as much as I do, this is a problem.
