Missing add media button, edit post box doesn't resize, etc.
-
I haven’t been using my blog lately because the new format is terrible. I loved the old format, but this new thing is terrible. Nothing is easy to find.
So, today, I’m trying to add photos to a post. I’ve typed up everything I want to say in my post. The edit post box wouldn’t expand intelligently, like your support page says it should. I didn’t even have the little diagonal bars in the corner to drag it to make it bigger. So, I went to full screen mode, but there’s no option to add media from the full screen mode.
I’m using Chrome on a Windows 8.1 laptop, so I don’t think this is a problem on my end.
It’s super annoying to have to scroll through the text of my post in the edit post box. It only shows me four lines at a time. Figuring out where the best place to put my pictures is a terrible time sink. I don’t like it at all.
I switched to WordPress from Google Apps because I wanted blogging to be fun and effortless, and this new format is killing my blogging buzz.
Why does the edit text box have to be at the bottom of the screen? I have tons of blank space under my post title where all the modules are… and then the edit text box is one tiny little box at the bottom. What gives?
Please tell me I can revert back to the old WordPress interface. I hate this one in so many ways.

Hi there!
The edit post box wouldn’t expand intelligently, like your support page says it should.
Can you confirm that this was in the new post editor at wordpress.com/post?
I was able to replicate the issue with the editor not expanding on first page load in Google Chrome. To make sure I’ve caught the same issue as you, could you let me know if the editor expands on that page after you’ve refreshed it? I can then feed this back to our developers.
So, I went to full screen mode, but there’s no option to add media from the full screen mode.
I wasn’t able to reproduce this and was wondering if you could provide some extra details:
* Are you zoomed into your screen? If so, could you try setting the zoom to 100% and letting me know if you’re then able to see the Add Media button.
* In Windows 8, Chrome can either be launched as an app or from your desktop. Can you confirm which you’re using it as?
Please tell me I can revert back to the old WordPress interface.
You can always access WP Admin directly from the following link:
https://arcticmusingsdotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/From there, you can access the classic editor by hovering over Posts on the left-hand, and the selecting either Add New or All Posts.
If you’d like an easy route back to that link, then you can bookmark it by clicking the star icon in Google Chrome’s URL box. By default, a link to it will then appear beneath the URL box at the top of Google Chrome.
I’d also like to thank you for your feedback on the new editor. We’re actively working on the new editor and listening to comments such as yours. If you can let me know those extra details around the missing Add Media button then I’ll further report this back to our developers.

Yes, I was using the editor at https://wordpress.com/post.

Even after hitting refresh, the text box stays just big enough to show four lines and that’s it.
re you zoomed into your screen? If so, could you try setting the zoom to 100% and letting me know if you’re then able to see the Add Media button.
I keep my zoom at 90%, usually, but I still have no button for add media on the full-screen text box.. at any point between 40% and 140%.

I have the desktop version of Chrome pinned to my start bar, and that’s what I used.

Thanks very much! That makes me much happier! You are amazing!
Also, to reiterate one thing from my original post, the text box for the post is way at the bottom of the screen. I have to scroll past all the modules just to get to the text box. So I’ve got my post title at the top of the screen, and a bunch of modules on the left side… I have to scroll down for two or three pages worth of blank screen under the post title just to get to the text box. It looks like someone meant for the text box to be immediately under the title bar and to the right of the modules, but that’s not how it’s working for me.
I’m going to try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome to see if that helps.

Thanks so much for providing those extra details. Could I ask you to provide a screenshot of the editor as you see it? I can then include this back in our report to the developers so that they clearly understand the issue. We have a guide for creating a screenshot here:

Sorry for missing this in your first reply! We’ve had a few reports of the editor dropping below the sidebar and our developers are actively looking into this. I’ve passed along details of your issue back to them. The screenshot will also help us out when looking into this.
I’m going to try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome to see if that helps.
Let me know how this goes. If you also have the time, it’d be really useful for us to see if you can replicate the issues in another browser, such as Firefox.
Thank you again for all of you feedback and help!
