Missing "Blog pages show at most" option on Reading Settings page
-
The “Blog pages show at most” option is missing from my Reading Settings page, meaning I’m unable to control how many posts appear on the front page of my blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/reading-settings/
This issue occurs in both Chrome and Firefox on Win XP SP3.

It seems you currently have just one post. Please try and publish more than one post, then this option will appear. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I have published 5 posts and still the same behaviour – see screenshot http://dl.dropbox.com/u/39027/readingsettings.png

You’re currently using a theme which has infinite scroll, meaning that visitors can just keep scrolling down to load new posts, thus making the posts per page option obsolete.

Thanks for pointing this out; I’ve solved this with the help of https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/to-infinity/page/5?replies=136
First I added a footer widget as per the forum post above. The Reading Settings page then displayed a “Scroll Infinitely” checkbox (checked) which I was able to uncheck.
When I then saved my changes, the Reading Settings page showed the “Blog pages show at most” option and I was able to set this to my preferred value.
One final request – please can this new behaviour be documented (if it is already, I missed it; perhaps better signposting is needed).
I have used the Twenty Eleven theme for a number of site builds and this one threw me somewhat – infinite scrolling is a cool option but it needs documented, especially in what is a “core” WP theme. Thanks.

The feature itself is still a bit in flux based on feedback. We’ll get that documentation out as soon as it has stabilized.
