Missing buttons/widgets for likes, sharing, email subscription, etc

  • Unknown's avatar

Apologies first if this matter is being or has been resolved in some other threads.

Since around 24-36 hours ago, I’ve noticed my blog is having these problems (so far as I could identify right now):

    – absent all of the SHARING buttons in all published posts
    – absent the usual LIKE button in all published posts
    – absent the WIDGET for email subscription
    – absent the two “text” widgets **

** These two I labelled “Unique Visitors” and “Visitor’s Locations, wherein they contain HTML codes from flagcounter.com and clustrmaps.com from since 2010 and never ‘manhandled’ with since.

All the other functionalities (Nero ratings, notifications, etc) are fine and operational.

If this has been resolved before, most grateful to be pointed in the right direction. If the issue(s) is/are still being resolved, I’d be very grateful if the better-experienced here could alert WP staff that I’m experiencing the same problems.

FYI, I’ve searched the forums before posting this, and found only one thread on this topic (https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/where-are-the-sharing-buttons-at-the-end-of-my-post?replies=2#post-1677151) but that’s currently hidden until resolved by staff.

If my situation is identical or comparable to THAT thread, I’d be grateful if this thread could be lumped into that one as well.

Thanks in advance and cheers to all.

I believe I’ve accidentally found the cause (and solution!) to the issues – and it may be relevant/useful for the other thread as well.

Seems that AdBlock Plus extension (currently v2.5.1) in Firefox v27.0.1 browser is blocking the buttons and some of the widgets.

    Solution (if using Firefox):

    1. In browser menu, View > Toolbars > click “Add-on Bar”.

    2. The Add-on Bar shows up at the bottom of the browser screen.

    3. Click on the “ABP” icon > click “Disable on [the current website]”.

    4. Fresh page and everything’s back on!

Advised to check AdBlock Plus homepage (http://adblockplus.org/en/) for any updates to the extension.

I can’t discover any way to disable Adblock Plus for the whole wordpress.com domain, so maybe that’s the way Adblock has been designed in the first place.

So we must repeat the above steps to disable (i.e. set as exception) for every “someblog.wordpress.com” subdomain.

So far, the foregoing has worked. Perhaps somebody could let WP staff know about it.

    Cheers and thanks all,
    Rob

Ah, very interesting. Thanks for reporting that.

Another interesting & accidental discovery is give up using Adblock Plus and instead use Adblock Edge extension (a fork of the Plus).

It seems Adblock Edge won’t interfere with the buttons, etc, but doesn’t require (the somewhat tiresome) individualised disabling that the Plus requires.

For Firefox users, Adblock Edge v2.1.2 extension is at:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-edge/

(Umm, please don’t consider this as an endorsement or recommendation of Adblock Edge – just a useful suggestion to consider from one user to another.)

Please let WP staff know about this too.

    Cheers,
    Rob

I have run into similar problems with widgets and as much as i have tried to find the reason for this i can’t.

I am using wordpress in Germany on a strato platform, my theme is coraline and I only have 13 widgets to choose from, most importantly i do not have an image widget.

    the url is http://sabinebresser.de

has anyone run into the same kind of problem and found a fix or reason or solution or anything for this problem.

Thank you for any help I can get with that

    Cheers, Sabine
